Bible Study Course
Book of Genesis
Part 1
Welcome to Book 1 in the Through the Bible Series of the Liberty Bible Course. This booklet will being taking you on a verse-by-verse journey through the Book of Genesis. This study is written to be used with the King James Version of the Bible. Please begin another exciting study in God's Word!
Chapter 1
Genesis 1:1
A. Genesis 1:1 says, In the beginning ______ ______________ the heaven and the earth.
Note:
You need to memorize the above verse for the Final Test.
How many words are in that verse? ____
Do you like to read?
Yes
No
How many
books do you think you have read in your life?
o - 0 to 20
o - 21 to 100
o - 101 or more
How many
words would you guess that you have read in your whole
life?
o - Hundreds
o - Thousands
o - Millions
A paperback book was randomly selected, and found to be about 200
pages long.
Then, a random sampling of those pages found an
average of 420 words per page.
About how many words does
that small paperback book contain? __________
How many words would you guess are in the whole Bible?
_______________
Have you ever read through the entire Bible?
o
Yes
o No
It is said that there are 791,328 words in the entire King James
Version of the Bible (D. A. Waite,
The Defined King James Bible).
Many
professing Christians have never read through
the
entire Bible.
Many would say that the reason they
have never done so, is because the Bible is so long,
yet they
have read many other books in their lives which
add
up to many more words than the Bible contains.
What does that mean?
It means that we read what we really
have a
desire to readno matter how long it is.
Will
you determine to read through the entire Bible in the next year?
Do we normally read just a portion of a letter that we receive,
or the whole thing?
Of course we read the whole letter,
otherwise, we may miss something very important.
Then, why
do so many people treat the Bible that way, reading only a
few
verses
in
the
middle somewhere?
Surely they are missing many important things.
1. Reading through the entire Bible is very
important.
Joshua 1:8 says, “This book of the law shall
not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein ______ and
__________, that thou mayest observe to do according to ______ that is
______________ therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then
thou shalt have good ______________.”
Have you learned the truth of the first ten words of the Bible, how that God
created this earth and life upon it?
If you have read millions of words, but still do not know and believe the first ten words of the Bible,
then you do not yet know the real purpose and reason for your life.
In the process of earning their high school diplomas, students read dozens of
books, and hundreds of thousands of words—but many graduate, not knowing how the
earth and life began.
To obtain a
Bachelors
degree, the average college student will probably read over 150 assigned books.
That will normally mean reading well over 12
million words.
Multiply that, for those going on to earn
Masters and/or
Doctors
degrees—but many of them will also graduate, not knowing how the earth and life
began.
Scientists spend years of their lives in research, and sometimes thousands of
dollars in grants—but many of them retire, still not knowing how the earth and
life began.
All of these people could have had the answer by simply reading the first ten
words of the Bible.
What about you?
Will much of your life also be wasted?
2. Psalms 25:4-5 says, “________ me thy ways, O LORD;
__________ me thy paths.
________ me in thy truth, and teach me: for
thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.”
Note:
Today, come to the Lord with the heart
attitude,
Show me..., Teach me..., Lead me…
God’s answer will come through reading the Bible.
3. Romans 10:17 says, “So then __________ cometh by hearing, and hearing by the
________ of God.”
Note:
There are many religious sign-seekers who have had
mystical experiences that do not agree with what the Bible teaches.
When you question them with Scripture, some of
them will say, “You need to
think outside of the box!” or they may say, “God is
not bound to a book!”
Beware of people that make such statements.
4.
God warns us about those people in Isaiah 8:20,
“To the ______ and to the __________________: if they speak not according to
this ________, it is because there is no __________ in them.”
The first warning is in regard to the “law.”
Note:
If people come up with laws or rules that
contradict what is taught in the Bible, then there is
no light in them—what they are saying is not from God.
The second warning is in regard to the “testimony.”
A
testimony
is what someone has
seen, heard,
or
experienced.
If people try to tell you that they have seen,
heard, or experienced anything that contradicts what is taught in the Bible,
then there is
no light in them—their experience is not from God.
5.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 says, “For such are
__________ apostles, __________________ workers, transforming themselves into
the apostles of Christ.
And no marvel; for __________ himself is
transformed into an angel of __________.
Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers
also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be
according to their works.”
The Bible warns us that Satan will appear as an “angel of light,” if necessary, to deceive people;
and that his “ministers” (demons), will also appear as “ministers of righteousness,” to deceive others.
This means that you must carefully test every law or rule that people teach, and every testimony
or
experience that they claim to
have had, to see if it agrees with what the
Bible teaches.
6.
1 Thessalonians 5:21 says, “__________ all
things; hold fast that which is good.”
Note:
Do you believe everything that you are told, or
do you first read the Bible to see if those things are true?
7. Acts 17:11 says, “These were more __________
than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of
mind, and ________________ the ____________________ daily, whether those things
were ____.”
8. Proverbs 14:15 says, “The ____________
believeth every word: but the ______________ man looketh well to his going.”
Note:
The word
prudent
means, “skill and good judgment in the use of resources”
(Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary).
Do not waste your life, it a precious resource that
cannot be replaced.
Read the Bible and live according to it.
The fact of the matter is that Jesus was “bound to the Book,” the Bible.
The Scriptures
governed His life, His ministry, and His death.
9. Jesus said in Matthew 26:53-54, “Thinkest thou that
I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve
legions of angels?
But how then shall the ____________________ be
__________________, that thus it must be?”
Note:
It is said that a
legion was the largest unit in the Roman army, being
about 6,000 men
(Way of Life Encyclopedia, David Cloud).
Based
upon that figure (12 legions times 6,000), Jesus was saying that He could have
called for more than ____________ angels to come and fight for Him against the
Roman soldiers.
Why did Jesus not do that?
Jesus, Himself, was “bound to the Book,” the Bible.
He never did
anything contrary to it.
Do not seek
mystical
or
charismatic
experiences.
Bind your faith and practice to the written
Word of God.
That is what Jesus did.
10. Psalms 27:11 says, “__________ me thy way, O LORD, and ________ me in a
plain path, because of mine enemies.”
The founding fathers of the United States of America
believed the first
ten words of the Bible.
They wrote:
“We hold these TRUTHS to be self-evident—that all men are CREATED equal;
that
they are endowed by their CREATOR with certain unalienable rights…”
—The Declaration of Independence
Note:
The founders of our nation believed in
creation—not evolution. Sadly, the
Theory of Evolution has now been taught exclusively in schools
for several generations, and its impact has been devastating.
11. Psalms 11:3 says, “If the
______________________ be destroyed, what can the __________________ do?”
CREATION is the FOUNDATION of dealing with people
about their souls.
The reason that we have to answer
to God one day is because He is the Creator of this earth and mankind; thus, He
is the Owner.
Note:
Do you own a cell phone, computer, car, or
house, etc.?
Who sets the rules for the things that you own?
You do.
Why are so many people unwilling to even listen to the
facts of creation?
Because if they admit that there is a Creator,
then they know that they have to answer to Him one day.
12. Romans 1:21-22 says, “Because that, when they knew
God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became ________
in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be ________, they
became __________.”
Note:
It truly is
vain and
foolish
to think that all of the beauty and complexity in nature came about by accident
(from a
big bang).
Will a car or computer ever evolve out of
the dirt in your
backyard?
Not a chance.
Giving it 10 years, or 100 years, or 100 billion years
makes no difference to the equation.
Those things only exist when there is
intelligent design and
skillful construction.
The end result of teaching EVOLUTION is ATHEISM—the belief that “there is no
God.”
13. Psalms 14:1 says, “The ________ hath said in his heart, There is ____ God.
They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth
good.”
Note:
Many people know that there is a problem with
education today, but they just cannot seem to discern the real cause.
They have tried spending more money; raising teacher’s
requirements; requiring more testing for the students, etc., but nothing seems
to really help.
The
College Board that administers the
SAT test has
acknowledged that the scores started dropping off severely in 1963.
They have researched the problem, and this was
their conclusion:
“Low SAT scores ‘are a symptom that something has disturbed and continues to affect
an important segment of our learning system. And yet we seem in recent years to have
come to a DEAD END in our exploration of the
etiology [the
cause or
origin] of the malady [the disease].’”
(Why the SAT Scores Kept Falling,
William W. Turnbull, College Board Report No. 85-28, page 12)
They continue on writing, “It would seem important that we continue to pursue
the search for a better understanding of what ails us as a guide to what to do
about it”
(IBID).
What information did the College Board miss in their
research?
They missed two important Supreme Court
cases involving Madalyn Murray O’Hair, the infamous atheist. The first case was in 1962,
when
school-sponsored prayer was thrown out of the public schools.
The second
case was in 1963, when Bible-reading was thrown out of the public schools.
Why did these
decisions affect the SAT scores?
The answer is given below in just ten words.
14. Proverbs 1:7 says, “The ________ of the LORD is the beginning of
__________________: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Note:
By denying school officials the right to call
upon God for help in teaching and learning for that school day, the Supreme
Court was limiting teachers to human strength, which is faulty and frail.
By also refusing to let teachers read from the
Bible, the Supreme Court left the teachers with nothing to teach, except fables,
in regard to the origin of the universe and mankind.
The justices threw out the only authoritative
text for creation—the Bible.
15. Proverbs 9:10 says, “The ________ of the LORD is the beginning of
____________: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”
Note:
The word
wisdom means, “good sense, judgment”
(Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary).
This brings up something very interesting about
the SAT test.
Back to the College Board’s study, they stated, “The SAT measures a student’s proficiency
in solving word and number problems.” They continue, “The test stresses
HIGHER ORDER REASONING than the 'basics' of reading and
calculating."
(Why the SAT Scores Kept Falling,
William W. Turnbull, College Board Report No. 85-28,
page 4).
Is it any wonder, then, that the SAT scores have dropped
since Prayer and Bible-reading have been thrown out of the public schools?
The SAT was designed, not just to test for KNOWLEDGE; but even further,
to test for WISDOM
(how to consider the facts with a higher order of reasoning).
Thanks to the atheists, the Supreme Court has taken away the key to both
knowledge and
wisdom
from the realm of public education. That KEY is
the holy respect or FEAR OF GOD.
The College Board missed this point, and
arrived at a dead end.
Is that also how your life will end, because you have failed to read the Bible
and to have the fear of God?
16.
1 Samuel 12:24 says, “Only ________ the LORD,
and __________ him in __________ with all your heart: for consider how great
things he hath done for you.”
People will never fear God, until they acknowledge that He is the Creator; and,
thus, the Owner of all things.
17. Psalms 24:1 says, “The __________ is the ____________, and the fulness
thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”
18. Isaiah 45:12 says, “I have ________ the
__________, and ______________
______ upon it: I, even my hands, have
stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.”
Question:
Do you realize that God is the Owner of this
earth, and that you will answer to Him one day?
What if you died today?
Read the inside of the back cover for help.
19. Romans 14:12 says, “So then __________ one of ____ shall give account of
himself to ______.”
Question:
Why is it that man can survive naturally upon the earth, but that no other planet or
moon seems to have the right conditions?
20. Isaiah 45:18 says, “For thus saith the LORD
that ______________ the heavens; God himself that formed the __________ and made
it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be
__________________: I am the LORD; and there is none else.”
It was not by chance or by accident that there is air
to breathe, water to drink, and livable temperatures
here upon planet earth—it was by God’s divine design.
