Book of Genesis
Part 1
Chapter 4
Genesis 1:2
A. “And the earth was without ________, and ________; and darkness was
upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters.”
Note:
Theistic Evolution was not the only false teaching that arose
because of those who were afraid of being called
ignorant.
Another false teaching arose called the
GAP THEORY.
It taught that between the first two verses of Genesis
chapter one, there were millions or billions
of years.
Note:
Remember, the Bible warns that some people will
believe things that are falsely called
science.
1.
1 Timothy 6:20-21 says, “O Timothy, keep that
which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and
______________________ of ______________
______________ so called:
Which some professing have erred concerning the
faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.”
Note:
The
Gap Theory falsely teaches
that verse 2 is describing the earth after God supposedly destroyed a previous
race upon it.
They thus teach that the description of
creation in chapters 1 and 2, is actually the
second time that God created everything.
They teach that there was a race of people
before Adam and Eve, who sinned and corrupted the
earth, and that God destroyed them all with the earth.
2. Romans 5:12 says, “Wherefore, as by ______
man ______ entered into the __________, and death by sin; and so death passed
upon all men, for that all have sinned.”
3. Romans 5:14 says, “Nevertheless death
reigned from ________ to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the
similitude of ____________ transgression, who is the figure of him that was to
come.”
The Bible teaches that sin entered into the world by Adam, which means that
there could not
have been a previous race of people that fell into sin. There is NO GAP
between verses 1 and 2.
B. Genesis 1:2 says, “And the ___________ was without ________, and
void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved
upon the face of the waters.”
Note:
The word
form means, “the shape and structure of something
as distinguished from its material”
(Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary).
God had created the material of the earth (what scientists refer to as matter),
but God had
C. Genesis 1:2 says, “And the earth was without form, and ________; and
darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the
face of the waters.”
Note:
The word
void means “not occupied, vacant, empty”
(Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary).
The earth was empty at this point, because God
had not yet filled it with His creations.
Verse 2 is NOT describing an earth just destroyed by God through a judgment (the
false teaching of the Gap Theory),
but an earth whose
matter
God
had just created,
but had not yet fully formed—not yet finished.
Note:
It is like building a house.
You lay the foundation and build the frame, but
it is empty inside, until you finish it.
D. Genesis 1:2 says, “And the earth was without form, and void; and
darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the ___________ of ______ moved upon
the face of the waters.”
Note:
In this second verse in the Bible, we are
already finding teaching about the
Godhead (the
Trinity).
The word
Trinity is defined as, “the unity of Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit as three persons in one Godhead”
(Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary).
The New Testament makes reference back to this verse, showing proof that all men are without excuse for not believing in the Trinity, the Godhead;
that
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are One.
1. Romans 1:20 says, “For the invisible things of him from the ________________
of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made,
even his ______________ power and ______________; so that they are without
excuse.”
Note:
Remember how we have already seen that Jesus is
God Almighty?
Now we see that the Holy Spirit is Almighty
God, too.
2.
1 John 5:7 says, “For there are __________ that
bear record in heaven, the ____________, the ________, and the ________
__________: and these three are ______.”
Note:
The devil does not like that verse, because it teaches that God the Father, God
the Son (the Word), and God the Holy Spirit are all One, and all are God
Almighty.
This is one reason that it is so important to be
reading the right translation of the Bible.
The New International Version of the Bible has partially removed 1 John 5:7. It reads, "For there are three that testify."
(New International Version, © 1978, International Bible Society)
Remember what the verse really says?
“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the
Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
(King James Version)
The NIV REMOVES information telling where these bear record, “in heaven.”
The NIV REMOVES the identity of these three, “the Father, the Word, and the Holy
Ghost.”
The NIV also REMOVES the very important
information that,
“these three are one,” proving that we worship one God—not three.
Compare the NIV to
The New World
Translation of the Jehovah’s Witness cult.
“For there are three witness bearers.”
(The New World Translation,
© 1961, 2006 Watchtower Bible & Tract Society)
Notice how the NIV took out the same portion of the verse as the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Remember how we have often been told that the new translations do not
affect any doctrines? Well, you can see that is not the truth. This is one reason why it is extremely important as to which Bible translation you read. Satan has
corrupted many translations of the Bible, to get people to believe false doctrine. If you are reading in English, make sure that you get a King James Version of the
Bible.
The Spirit of God (God the Holy Spirit) is not
just a
force, as some false
religions teach.
The Holy Spirit is the
eternal God.
3. Hebrews 9:14 says, “How much more shall the blood
of Christ, who through the ______________
____________ offered himself without spot to
God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”
Note:
The Holy Spirit is
eternal, and only God has
always
existed.
4. Psalm 90:2 says, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst
formed the earth and the world, even from ______________________ to
______________________, thou art ______.”
Note:
The Holy Spirit is
eternal, so the Holy Spirit is
God.
The Holy Spirit is also referred to as
God in the next verses.
5. Acts 5:3-4 says, “But Peter said, Ananias, why hath
Satan filled thine heart to lie to the ________
__________, and to keep back part of the price
of the land?
Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and
after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this
thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto ______.”
To lie to the Holy Ghost, is to lie to God.
Review:
1. Another false teaching arose called the ______
Theory.
This theory taught that between the first two verses
of Genesis chapter one, there were millions or billions of __________.
2.
The
Gap Theory falsely teaches that verse 2 is describing
the earth after God supposedly __________________ a previous race upon it.
3.
Romans 5:12 says, “Wherefore, as by ______ man sin ______________ into the
world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have
sinned.”
4. The Bible tells us the name of that one man, and it
was ________—which means that there could not have been a previous race of
people before Adam and Eve that fell into sin.
There is NO ______ between verses 1 and 2 of
Genesis chapter 1.
5. Genesis 1:2 says, “And the earth was without ________, and void; and darkness
was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters.”
6. The word
form
means, “the __________ and structure of something as distinguished from its
material”
(Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary).
God had created the
material of the earth (what scientists refer to as
matter), but God had not yet formed the material
into specific things.
7. Genesis 1:2 says, “And the earth was without form, and ________; and darkness
was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters.”
8. The word
void
means “not occupied, vacant, __________”
(Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary).
The earth was empty at this point, because God
had not yet filled it with His creations.
9. Verse 2 is NOT describing an earth that God had just destroyed through a
judgment (the false teaching of the Gap Theory), but an earth whose matter God
had just created, but had not yet fully formed—not yet ________________.
10. Genesis 1:2 says, “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness
was upon the face of the deep. And the ___________ of ______ moved upon the face
of the waters.”
11. The New Testament makes reference back to this verse, showing proof that all
men are without excuse for not believing in the
Trinity, the
Godhead.
That God the Father, God the Son, and God the
Holy Spirit are ______.
12. Romans 1:20 says, “For the invisible things of him from the ________________
of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made,
even his ______________ power and ______________; so that they are without
excuse.”
13.
The Spirit of God (God the Holy Spirit) is not just a force, as some false
religions teach.
The Holy Spirit is the eternal God.
14.
1 John 5:7 says, “For there are three that bear
record in heaven, the ____________, the ________, and the ________
__________: and these three are ______.”
