Chapter 2

D. Some verses are changed and corrupted in the NIV.

#1 — Proverbs 25:23

KJV (King James Version)    -   “The __________ wind ______________    ________ rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.”

NIV (New International Version)    -   “As a north wind BRINGS RAIN, so a sly tongue brings angry looks.”

NWT (New World Translation — Jehovah’s Witnesses)   -   “The wind from the north BRINGS FORTH as with labor pains A DOWNPOUR; and a tongue [giving away] a secret, a denounced face.”

Note:   This verse is covered in detail in BC-E-124, page 5. Please refer to that Bible Course for more information.  Notice how the NIV translators followed the same error as the Jehovah’s Witnesses. The NIV translators have made a false statement. The KJV is correct — when the north wind begins to blow, it drives the rain away. Please see the mentioned Bible Course to see the proof of that from testimony around the world, and from weather sources.
This does not mean that only the south wind brings rain. We may get storms from the west, or south, or east that bring rain, but when you see the wind switch to the north, it will begin to drive the rain away.

All of the new Bible translations in English which were consulted for this study,

have made this same error. If you cannot trust God to know how the weather

really works, then how could you ever trust Him with your soul?

    1. Psalms 148:7-8 says, “Praise the LORD from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps: Fire, and ________;    ________, and ____________; stormy ________ fulfilling his ________:”

Note:   The Bible says that the weather fulfills God’s Word. That tells you that these modern translations are not God’s true Word, because they have made a clearly false statement about the weather.

    2. 1 Timothy 6:20-21 says, “O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and ______________________ of science ______________ so called: Which some professing have __________ concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.”

Note:   This next section deals with where the translators changed names to pronouns. By one estimate, the NIV translators removed God’s name and replaced it with a pronoun at least 136 times.

#2 — Matthew 6:33

KJV (King James Version)    -   “But seek ye first the kingdom of ______, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

NIV (New International Version)    -   “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Note:   The word in the Received Text is Theos, the Greek word for God. Did the translators update Old English here in this passage? No, they changed the name God, to his — those are two different words.

#3 — Matthew 13:36

KJV (King James Version)    -   “Then __________ sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.”

NIV (New International Version)    -   “Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”

Note:   The word in the Received Text is Iesous, the Greek word for Jesus. Did the translators update Old English here in this passage? No, they changed the name Jesus to the pronoun he — those are two different words.

#4 — Ephesians 5:9

KJV (King James Version)    -   “(For the fruit of the ____________ is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)”

NIV (New International Version)    -   “(For the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth).”

NWT (New World Translation — Jehovah’s Witnesses)   -   “For the fruitage of the light consists of every sort of goodness and righteousness and truth.”

Note:    Notice how the NIV makes the same exact change as did the Jehovah’s Witnesses (who do not believe that the Holy Spirit is God). They change Spirit to light. Notice that they do not even capitalize the word when they change it. Are these fruits really just the good works of people that they do on their own? Or are these fruits the supernatural work of God the Holy Spirit working in the lives of believers? You could not prove it from this verse in the NIV.   The word in the Received Text is Pneuma, the Greek word for Spirit. Did the translators update Old English here in this passage? No. The problem is that we have an evil adversary who tries to portray himself as light.

    1. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 says, “For such are __________ apostles, __________________ workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for __________ himself is transformed into an __________ of __________. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”

#5 — 1 Corinthians 9:18

KJV (King James Version)    -   “What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of ____________ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.”

NIV (New International Version)    -   “What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not make use of my rights in preaching it.”

Note:   They totally removed the name Christ from this verse. The word in the Received Text is Christos, the Greek word for Christ. Did the translators here update Old English? No.

This is just a sample of the 136 changes which the translators made to the names of God.

Does God care if His name is changed to a pronoun, or altogether removed?

    1. Malachi 2:1-2 says, “And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give __________ unto my ________, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.”
    2. God has even used the heathen to make sure that His name is declared. Exodus 9:16 says, “And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my ________ may be ________________ throughout all the earth.”

God’s name is not being declared through the
changes in the NIV — God’s name is being removed.

    3. We sometimes suffer reproach because of the name of Christ. Mark 13:13 says, “And ye shall be __________ of all men for my ____________ sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.”
    4. We gather together in the name of the Lord. Matthew 18:20 says, “For where two or three are ________________ together in my ________, there am I in the midst of them.”
    5. Names are important to people — are they not to God as well?   3 John 14 says, “But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. __________ the friends by ________.”
    6. We are to have the highest regard for Jesus’ name. Philippians 2:9-10 says, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a ________ which is __________ every name: That at the ________ of Jesus every knee should ______, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.”

Should it not concern Christians when God’s name is either removed or changed

136 times in the NIV? Who would ever dream that pastors would defend such men,

when they have tampered with the name that is above all names, and to be held in the

highest regard? What if your name was removed 136 times from an official document?

Would that concern you? Why does it not seem to concern Christians

when God’s name is treated with such contempt?

Note:    Instead of acknowledging the evil deeds that have been done in the NIV, many pastors and Christians lash out at those who point out these problems. What is taking place in the world right now?

    7.    2 Timothy 4:2-4 says, “____________ the word; be instant ____ season, ______ of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and ________________. For the time will come when they will ______ endure __________ doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the __________, and shall be turned unto ____________.”

Note:   The word fables means “fictitious narratives or statements; falsehoods, lies” (Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary) Satan is ready to deceive people any way that he can, and he has deceived many that the translators of the NIV have done nothing wrong.

    8. Proverbs 30:20 says, “Such is the way of an _____________________ woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have ________   ____   ____________________.”

Note:   We cannot rest upon our own wisdom or strength for such a battle as this, when dealing with the deceiver himself, or with those who are so deceived themselves, that they see no wrong in what has been done.

    9. Ephesians 6:10-11 says, “Finally, my brethren, be ____________ in the ________, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the __________ of the __________.”

Note:   The word wiles means “traveling over, trickery, and to lie in wait” (Strong’s #G3180).

Illustration:    A good hunter does not wait until the season starts to go out into the field and scout for animals. He goes out and scouts before the season opens. That is why good hunters often know where the big bucks are before opening morning.

The devil is wily. He travels back and forth scouting out

who he can deceive or harm — even before the season opens.

    10. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be ________________; because your adversary the __________, as a roaring lion, ______________ about, seeking whom he may ____________.”
    11. Job 1:6-7 says, “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and __________ came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going ____ and ______ in the earth, and from walking ____ and ________ in it.”
    12. Job 1:8 says, “And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou ____________________ my servant ______, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an ______________ man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?”

Note:   Yes, Satan had considered Job, but God had a hedge of protection and blessing around him. In other words, it was not open season for Job — yet; but the time came when it would be, and Satan was ready with a plan.

We get our English word method  from the Greek word methodia.

Do you notice the similarity in spelling? The word method  means,

“a procedure or process for attaining an object. The word method  implies

an orderly, logical arrangement, USUALLY IN STEPS” (Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary).

    13. Job 1:9-11 says, “Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an __________ about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast ______________ the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch ______ that he hath, and he will ___________ thee to thy face.”
    14. God now gives limited permission for open season upon Job. Job 1:12 says, “And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, ______ that he hath is in thy __________; only upon ______________ put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.”

Note:   Satan now goes to work with his plan — step-by-step.

    15. Step #1 — Job 1:13-15 says, “And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The ________ were plowing, and the __________ feeding beside them: And the Sabeans fell upon them, and _________ them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.” (This was a loss of ______ oxen and ______ asses, according to Job 1:3).
    16. Step #2 — Job 1:16 says, “While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The ________ of God is fallen from heaven, and hath ____________ up the __________, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.” (This was a loss of __________ sheep, according to Job 1:3).
    17. Step #3 — Job 1:17 says, “While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the ____________, and have ______________ them ________, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.” (This was a loss of __________ camels, according to Job 1:3).
    18. Step #4 — Job 1:18-19 says, “While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy ________ and thy __________________ were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: And, behold, there came a great ________ from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are ________; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.” (This was a loss of _____ children, according to Job 1:2).

It is interesting to note that when God did not allow

Satan to touch Job, then Satan did not touch Job’s wife.

A husband and wife are considered one when they are married.

    19. Genesis 2:23-24 says, “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called __________, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his ________: and they shall be ______ flesh.”
    20. Matthew 19:3-6 says, “The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his ________: and they twain shall be ______ flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but ______ flesh. What therefore God hath ____________ together, let not man put ______________.”

Note:   God later opened season upon Job himself.

    21. Job 2:3-6 says, “And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. And Satan answered the LORD, and said, ________ for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. But put forth thine hand now, and touch his ________ and his __________, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but ________ his ________.”
    22. Job 2:7 says, “So went __________ forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore __________ from the sole of his ________ unto his __________.”

When will we ever learn? The devil is wily. He figures out a plan for deceiving

and destroying people, and then, STEP-BY-STEP, he tries to accomplish his evil task.

That is what the devil is very successfully accomplishing right now with Bible translations.

He previously tried to have all of the Bibles burned, but that did not work. So now he has

devised another plan to remove and change things in the Bible, STEP-BY-STEP.

He has accomplished the first round in the NIV. Now, the same translators

have produced the TNIV, which some say has been changed 7% from the NIV.

Question:    If someone took away 7% of your bank account, would you think that was okay? Are you more protective of your earthly treasures than of God’s treasure to mankind — His Word?

    23. Psalms 19:7-11 says, “The ______ of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the __________________ of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The ______________ of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the ______________________ of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The ________ of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the ___________________ of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be ______________ are they than ________, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great ____________.”
