Chapter 3

D. Some verses are changed and corrupted in the NIV (continued).

#6 — 1 Tim. 3:16

KJV (King James Version)    -   “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: ______ was manifest in the __________, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”

NIV (New International Version)    -   “Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.”

Note:   There are TWO PROBLEMS in the way that the NIV translated this verse.  First, they changed the name God to the pronoun He. This is not what the Received Text says. It says Theos, the Greek word for God. By making this change, the NIV translators took away another verse that clearly proves that Jesus is God Almighty.   Secondly, they changed the phrase “in the FLESH” to “in a BODY.” That is a very important error. Some of the cults believe that Jesus was an angelic being, and not God Almighty (like the Jehovah’s Witnesses).

This error in the NIV is antichrist doctrine. Angels can (and did)

appear in bodies, but angels do not have regular bodies of flesh.

   1.    2 John 7 says, "For many __________________ are entered into the world, who confess ______ that Jesus Christ is come in the __________. This is a ________________ and an
____________________."

Note:   Jesus did not come to earth as an angelic being, just appearing in a body. Jesus’ body was a real body of flesh. God the Father Himself contrasts Jesus with angels, and calls Jesus “God.”

    2. Hebrews 1:7-8 says, “And of the ____________ he saith, Who maketh his angels ______________, and his ministers a flame of fire. But unto the ______ he saith, Thy throne, O ______, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.”

Note:    Angels were made as spirit beings. They can appear in a body, but they do not have regular bodies of flesh.

    3. Luke 24:36-39 says, “And as they thus spake, __________ himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and ________________ that they had seen a ____________. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: ____________ me, and see; for a ____________ hath ______ __________ and __________, as ye see me have.”

Note:   Jesus could not have redeemed us who are in the flesh unless He came in the same manner.

    4. Hebrews 2:14-17 says, “Forasmuch then as the ________________ are partakers of __________ and __________, he also himself ________________ took part of the ________; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For verily he took ______ on him the ____________ of ____________; but he took on him the ________ of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be ________ ________ unto his ________________, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make ____________________________ for the ________ of the people.”

Note:   No where in the Bible does it ever insinuate that Jesus’ death on the cross had any benefit whatsoever for those angels which have fallen. They are spirit beings. Jesus died in the flesh for mankind who is in the flesh. The angels are quite intrigued at what wonderful salvation God wrought for those in the flesh.

    5. 1 Peter 1:7-12 says, “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of __________ ____________: Whom having ______ seen, ye ________; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the __________________ of your __________. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the ____________ desire to ________ into.”

Note:   The angels are in a different realm than us. They can see God, unlike us, who have never seen Him. Because they have seen Him and His glory, and still rebelled, they have made their decision.

    6. Jude 1:6 says, “And the ____________ which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting ____________ under darkness unto the ________________ of the great day.”

Note:   Hell was actually first made for the angels who rebelled, but mankind who rejects God will also find himself there for all of eternity.

    7. Matthew 25:41 says, “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye ____________, into
_______________________ fire, ________________ for the __________ and his ____________.”

Note:   As has already been noted, angels can appear in bodies, even though they are not regular bodies of flesh. Two angels, along with the Lord, appeared to Abraham, and he just thought that they were three regular men, at first.

    8. Genesis 18:1-2 says, “And the LORD ________________ unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, __________    ______ stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground.”
    9. Genesis 18:22 says, “And the ______ turned their faces from thence, and ________ toward __________: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.”

Note:   We are told that the One still there was the Lord. The other two head for Sodom, and when they arrive there, we are told who they really are.

    10. Genesis 19:1 says, “And there came ______   ____________ to __________ at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.”

Note:    Neither Abraham nor Lot knew, at first, that they were entertaining angels, because they appeared in bodies to them.

    11. Hebrews 13:2 says, “Be not forgetful to entertain __________________: for thereby some have entertained ____________   ________________.”

#7 — Rom. 14:10-12

KJV (King James Version)    -   “But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of ____________. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”

NIV (New International Version)    -   “You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.’” So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.”

NWT (New World Translation — Jehovah’s Witnesses)   -   “But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you also look down on your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God.” For it is written: “‘As I live,’ says Jehovah, ‘to me every knee will bend down, and every tongue will make open acknowledgment to God.”

Note:    Notice, once again, how the NIV has gone right along with the Jehovah’s Witnesses, who do not believe that Jesus is God.  These two verses in the KJV clearly prove that Jesus is God — “we shall all stand before the judgment seat of CHRIST... So then every one of us shall give account of himself to GOD.”  By taking away the name of Christ, the NIV goes right along with the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and this passage can no longer be used to show that Jesus is God.    The Greek word here in the Received Text is Christos, the Greek word for Christ — not Theos, the Greek word for God.

So many professing Christians argue in defense of the NIV and the Critical Text

from which it was translated, but they have failed to do their homework to see for whom they are

arguing — for those who deny that Jesus is indeed the Christ, the anointed one, God in the flesh.

    12. Jesus is God Almighty, and He is going to judge all mankind one day. John 5:22 says, “For the ____________ judgeth ____ man, but hath committed ______ ________________ unto the ______.”
    13. And Jesus has already told us the standard by which He is going to judge mankind. John 12:48 says, “He that __________________ me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that ______________ him: the ________ that I have spoken, the same shall __________ him in the last day.”

Note:   Ask any preacher who uses the NIV if he believes that it is the pure, preserved, Word of God without error, and he (if he is honest), will say, “No.” They do not believe that any translation is the Word of God without error.  If that is the case, then mankind better greatly fear, because John 12:48 says that man will be judged according to the Word of God. And if no one really has the pure Word of God, then no one really knows exactly what it says or requires of mankind. That puts man in pretty bad shape to face the judgment.

#8 — Matthew 1:25

KJV (King James Version)    -   “And knew her not till she had brought forth her __________________ son: and he called his name JESUS.”

NIV (New International Version)    -   “But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.”

NWT (New World Translation — Jehovah’s Witnesses)   -   “But he had no intercourse with her until she gave birth to a son; and he called his name Jesus.”

Note:   The NIV, just like the Jehovah’s Witnesses NWT, takes out the word firstborn. They did not update an Old English word here — they just totally removed it. The word is there in the Received Text. The Greek word is prototokos, meaning “firstborn” (Strong’s #4416).  Any tampering with the text of Scripture is very serious, and there are also two other very serious doctrinal matters about tampering with this verse.

#1 — This verse is very important to emphasize the VIRGIN BIRTH of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Note:   It was absolutely necessary that Jesus be Mary’s firstborn Son, or it could not have been a virgin birth. If Jesus was just one of Mary’s sons, but not necessarily the firstborn, then He would not have been the virgin-born Son of God.  This is very important, because if Jesus would have been born of a natural conception between a man and a woman, then He would have been born with a sin nature like us.

    1. Romans 5:12 says, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death ____________ ________ ______ men, for that all have sinned.”
    2. Romans 7:14 describes what it is like to have a sin nature, “For we know that the law is __________________: but I am ____________, sold under ______.”
    3. It goes on further in Romans 7:22-23, “For I delight in the law of God after the ____________ man: But I see another law in my members, ______________ against the law of my mind, and bringing me into __________________ to the law of ______ which is ____ my members.”

Note:   If Jesus was born of a normal conception between a man and a woman, He could not have been the Savior, because He would have been born with the fallen sin nature of mankind. This is why this change in the NIV (that matches the change in the NWT), is extremely important.

#2 — This verse is very important, because the Catholics can use the NIV

to teach their false doctrine of the PERPETUAL VIRGINITY of Mary.

Note:   If this was not Mary’s firstborn (meaning, He was the first of more children to come), then that would fit right in with the false doctrine of the Catholics that makes Mary out to be the perpetual virgin, the Mother of God. There is no such thing as the perpetual virginity of Mary. Perpetual means “continuing forever; everlasting” (Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary).

The Catholics realize the significance of the virgin birth for Jesus to be God in the flesh.

Their problem comes when they exalt Mary to the status of the Mother of God.

They reason, “How can Mary be the Mother of God if she has a sin nature herself?” So they try to formulate doctrine that makes her out to be sinless. She must then have a miraculous birth herself, and then she must not have any other children, because if she is the sinless Mother of God, then any children that she has are going to be God in the flesh. As you will notice, one false doctrine quickly leads to another false doctrine — it is the snowball effect. Seeming they did not want to say that Mary had many Saviors (many children), then they had to say that she simply had no more children the rest of her life.

When the Catholics made Mary out to be the Mother of God,

instead of the humble vessel that God used to bring forth the earthly body of

the Son of God, then they actually exalted Mary above  the Lord Jesus Christ.

Note:   On some crosses in Rome, Mary actually appears hanging on the opposite side of the cross from Jesus. In Catholic films that are made, like The Passion of the Christ, Jesus is looking constantly to His mother for strength to get through the suffering of the crucifixion. And that is also why Catholics emphasize praying to Mary. This is also why some popes dedicate their papacies to Mary, not to the Lord Jesus Christ.  John Paul II has dedicated his papacy to Mary... His personal motto, Totus Tuus (Completely Yours), is a term illustrating the consecration of his life to the Blessed Virgin, a consecration that took place while he was still a Polish bishop. The assassination attempt and the vision that followed it serve to affirm Mary's unique role for this Pope. He called the assassination attempt a "mysterious coincidence with the anniversary of the first apparition at Fatima" in a speech he gave as a pilgrim to Fatima on May 13, 1982. During this pilgrimage, John Paul also conducted a service where he consecrated the world and, indirectly, Russia, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary (http://members.aol.com/bjw1106/marian7a.htm).

The Bible is very clear that Mary did not go on in her
virginity, but had normal husband/wife relations with Joseph.

    4. Matthew 1:23-25 says, “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And ________ her ______   ________ she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.”

Note:   The Bible is very clear that Joseph and Mary did not have normal marital affection until she had brought forth the Lord Jesus Christ. That affirms that the virginity state ended after Jesus’ birth.

The Bible goes on to affirm that Joseph and Mary had other children.

    5. Matthew 13:55-56 says, “Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his ____________ called Mary? and his ________________, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his ______________, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?”

Note:   This passage presents a problem to the Catholics, and they try to explain it away by saying that these were just brothers and sisters in the Lord. But that is not the case, because the context is talking about family — mother, brothers, and sisters. Such was the case on other occasions. The context easily tells if the reference is to spiritual or physical relationships.

    6. Matthew 12:46-50 says, “While he yet talked to the people, behold, his ____________ and his ________________ stood without, desiring to speak with him. Then one said unto him, Behold, thy ____________ and thy ________________ stand without, desiring to speak with thee. But he answered and said unto him that told him, ______ is my mother? and ______ are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his __________________, and said, Behold my ____________ and my ________________! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my ______________, and ____________, and ____________.”

Note:   This passage clearly shows both — the physical family and the spiritual family. The physical family was waiting outside and wanted to speak with Him (His mother and brothers). The spiritual family was inside and listening to Him speak (His disciples). So the Catholic doctrine that Mary was a perpetual virgin and had no other children is false.

Mary was not the sinless Mother of God. Only sinners need a Saviour, and Mary confessed that she needed a Saviour.

    7. Mary testified in Luke 1:46-47, “And ________ said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in ______   ____   ______________.”

Note:   Mary is not the Mother of God. Jesus did not come into existence in Mary’s womb — that is simply where His earthly body was formed.

    8. John 6:38 says, “For I ________ down from ____________, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.”
    9. John 6:51 says, “I am the living bread which ________ down from ____________: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
    10. John 3:13 says, “And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that ________ down from ____________, even the Son of man which is in heaven.”

None of us came down from heaven. None of us existed before our births.

But the Lord Jesus Christ has always existed. The birth of His physical body

in the womb of Mary did not bring Him into existence.

    11. John 8:57-58 says, “Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet __________ years old, and hast thou ________ Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, ____________ Abraham was, I ____.”
    12. Micah 5:2 says, “But thou, __________________ Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ___________ in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of ______, from ______________________.”
