What are the names and types of angels in the Bible?

Question:

What are ALL of the names and types of angels in the Bible?

Answer:

There is at least one “archangel.” I Thessalonians 4:16 says, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the ARCHANGEL, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:” His name is given in Jude 9, “Yet MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”Continue reading

Does the Bible mention angels SINGING?

Question:

Does the Bible mention angels SINGING?

Answer:

Many people refer to angels singing at Jesus’ birth, but Luke 2:11-14 does not specifically say that they were singing. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel A MULTITUDE OF THE HEAVENLY HOST PRAISING GOD, AND SAYING, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” They were praising God, but it does not specifically say that they were singing.Continue reading

What four angels are named in the Bible?

Question:

What four angels are named in the Bible?

Answer:

Michael is one. Jude verse 9 says, “Yet MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”

Gabriel is another. Luke 1:26,27 says, “And in the sixth month THE ANGEL GABRIEL was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.”

Lucifer, or Satan, is another. Job 1:6,7 says, “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” Satan is a fallen angelic creature of the cherubim type. Ezekiel 28:13-16 says, “Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.” Isaiah 14:12-15 says, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”

Abaddon, or Apollyon, is another angel for which we are told a name. Revelation 9:11 says, “And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.”

There are many more angels, but we are just not told the names of them. Judges 13:17,18 says, “And Manoah said unto the ANGEL of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour? And the angel of the LORD said unto him, WHY ASKEST THOU THUS AFTER MY NAME, SEEING IT IS SECRET?” Psalm 68:17 says, “The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even THOUSANDS OF ANGELS: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place.” Hebrews 12:22 says, “But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to AN INNUMERABLE COMPANY OF ANGELS.”

How do spirit beings fight each other?

Question:

How did Satan and his angels have war in heaven against Michael and his angels?  Do spirit beings really attack one another?   Did Satan’s angels suffer physically from wounds or injury?  And if they did, how could this be possible, since they are spirit beings?

Answer:

Revelation 12:7-10 says, “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”Continue reading

Who are the “sons of God?”

Question:

Why did God create the devil, and who are the sons of God?

Answer:

Why did God create the devil?

Ezekiel 28:11-17 begins talking about a king, and goes beyond the king to the evil one behind him, Satan. “Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.” God created this one (an angelic being, the anointed cherub) perfect, but he then fell into sin.Continue reading

Will we that are saved have wings when we get to heaven?

Question:

Will we that are saved have wings when we get to heaven?

Answer:

Man is never seen having wings, but certain angelic beings do. Isaiah 6:1-3 describes the seraphims: “In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood THE SERAPHIMS: EACH ONE HAD SIX WINGS; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” The angelic beings, the cherubims (of which Satan is a fallen cherub) are also seen with wings. Ezekiel 10:3-15 says, “Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court. Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’S glory. And the sound of the CHERUBIMS’ WINGS was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaketh. And it came to pass, that when he had commanded the man clothed with linen, saying, Take fire from between the wheels, from between the cherubims; then he went in, and stood beside the wheels. And one cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubims unto the fire that was between the cherubims, and took thereof, and put it into the hands of him that was clothed with linen: who took it, and went out. And there appeared in the cherubims THE FORM OF A MAN’S HAND UNDER THEIR WINGS. And when I looked, behold the four wheels by the cherubims, one wheel by one cherub, and another wheel by another cherub: and the appearance of the wheels was as the colour of a beryl stone. And as for their appearances, they four had one likeness, as if a wheel had been in the midst of a wheel. When they went, they went upon their four sides; they turned not as they went, but to the place whither the head looked they followed it; they turned not as they went. And their whole body, and their backs, and their hands, and THEIR WINGS, and the wheels, were full of eyes round about, even the wheels that they four had. As for the wheels, it was cried unto them in my hearing, O wheel. And every one had four faces: the first face was the face of a cherub, and the second face was the face of a man, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle. And the cherubims were lifted up. This is the living creature that I saw by the river of Chebar.”Continue reading
