Why do Mormons say that they will one day be “gods?”

Question:

I have many friends who are Mormons. They claim that they can become gods. That seems rather strange to me and as if they have taken something (whatever) out of context. What are they talking about?

Answer:

The Mormons do wrongly believe that man can become a “god” himself one day. They actually believe that Adam was “God the Father,” and that it was Adam who came upon the virgin Mary, instead of the Holy Spirit, to conceive the Lord Jesus Christ. That is why they believe in polygamy (more than one wife) because they plan on being “gods of their own worlds” one day (like Jesus is of this universe, they say), and they thus have to “populate their new worlds.”

Their whole system of belief is so unscriptural, that anyone who is honestly seeking the truth and reading the Bible, would immediately leave their religion. It makes Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross “just a game to play,” because they would have to do the same one day “in their worlds.”

The Bible is clear that man will never become God. Isaiah 43:10,11 says, “Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: BEFORE ME THERE WAS NO GOD FORMED, NEITHER SHALL THERE BE AFTER ME. I, even I, am the LORD; and BESIDE ME THERE IS NO SAVIOUR.”

The Mormons do not believe that Jesus is God Almighty, but a “lesser god,” the “greatest creation of God.” This passage tells us that there is only one true and living God, and He is the Savior. There will never be other Saviors. There will never be “more gods formed.” Jesus is God Almighty, and has existed from eternity past, which is only true of God. Micah 5:2 says, “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; WHOSE GOINGS FORTH HAVE BEEN FROM OF OLD FROM EVERLASTING.”

The only thing to do with a Mormon is keep giving them Scripture that Jesus is God, and that if they do not accept Him as such, they will perish in their sins. John 8:24 says, “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.”
