a.gif (1659 bytes)    The word "antichrist" is seen 4 times in the Bible. The plural form, "antichrists," is used once in the Bible. The phrase "false Christ's" appears 2 times in the Bible. We will discuss those verses more later.

If you are looking for a description of the antichrist, you will find it in Revelation 13. When you make a detailed comparison of what the devil does, you will see that he tries to imitate God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

First, the "dragon" is Satan himself. Revelation 12:7-9 says, "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the DRAGON; and the DRAGON fought AND HIS ANGELS, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And THE GREAT DRAGON WAS CAST OUT, THAT OLD SERPENT, CALLED THE DEVIL, AND SATAN, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

Second, the "first beast" is the antichrist, the devil’s imitation of Jesus Christ. Revelation 13:1,2 says, "And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a BEAST rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and THE DRAGON GAVE HIM HIS POWER, AND HIS SEAT, AND GREAT AUTHORITY."

That is an imitation of John 5:26,27, which says, "For as THE FATHER hath life in himself; SO HATH HE GIVEN TO THE SON to have life in himself; AND HATH GIVEN HIM AUTHORITY to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man."

Revelation 13:3 continues on, "And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast." This, of course, is an imitation of Jesus’ death on the cross, only the devil tries to do one better with his "antichrist." In his case, the deadly wound is healed, and he does not die. What this does is cause all the world to be in awe of the beast (the antichrist). Revelation 13:4 says, "And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?" If he received a deadly wound, and was healed, then who could ever make war against him and succeed? If someone gave him a deadly wound, it would do no good, because he would just be healed of it. With such power, what could anyone upon earth do to him to stop him from doing anything that he wanted to do?

This all takes place in the second half of the Tribulation Period (verse 5 says this continues for 42 months, which is 3 1/2 years figuring 30 day months). This is the time when Satan has been cast out of the heavenly realm. Remember the words of Revelation 12:7-9, "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; NEITHER WAS THEIR PLACE FOUND ANY MORE IN HEAVEN. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

Revelation 13:11,12 show the devil’s imitation of the Holy Spirit. "And I beheld ANOTHER BEAST coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and CAUSETH THE EARTH AND THEM WHICH DWELL THEREIN TO WORSHIP THE FIRST BEAST, WHOSE DEADLY WOUND WAS HEALED."

That is a clear imitation of the Holy Spirit, who points people to Jesus, the One who died and rose again from the grave. John 16:13,14 says, "Howbeit when he, THE SPIRIT of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for HE SHALL NOT SPEAK OF HIMSELF; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. HE SHALL GLORIFY ME: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you."

Revelation 13:17,18 says, "And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for IT IS THE NUMBER OF A MAN; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

The antichrist is a man that will be used of Satan, as was Judas. Daniel 11:37 says, "Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all." It will be a man that is self-centered to the extreme. And that will probably not seem too strange, for the Bible says in II Timothy 3:1-4, "This know also, that IN THE LAST DAYS perilous times shall come. FOR MEN SHALL BE LOVERS OF THEIR OWN SELVES, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God." He will set himself up as God. II Thessalonians 2:3,4 says, "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and THAT MAN OF SIN be revealed, the son of perdition; WHO OPPOSETH AND EXALTETH HIMSELF ABOVE ALL THAT IS CALLED GOD, OR THAT IS WORSHIPPED; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."

I John 2:18,19 brings it down home close to us. We should not be worried about the APPEARANCE of the antichrist, as much as THE TACTICS OF THE ANTICHRIST. "Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, EVEN NOW THERE ARE MANY ANTICHRISTS; whereby we know that it is the last time. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us." The antichrist is going to be known by many people. We tend to excuse error in people that we know. BUT WHEN SOMEONE TURNS AWAY FROM THE CLEAR TEACHING OF THE BIBLE — BEWARE. That is exactly what the antichrist will do, and many will believe and follow him.

Matthew 24:24 says, "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." This is exactly what the Charismatic Movement is doing, and it is drawing a huge multitude of people out of churches into it. Matthew 7:22,23 says, "MANY will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not PROPHESIED in thy name? and in thy name have CAST OUT DEVILS? and in thy name DONE MANY WONDERFUL WORKS? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

The important thing is to recognize that the spirit of antichrist is already at work, and thriving today. More than ever, we need to be serving the Lord according to the truth of His Word. John 9:4 says, "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work."
