What does the
Bible say about cloning?
What is your answer to the question of cloning, how
does it stand in scripture?
To speed up the mapping of the human genome
project, man has been cloning (replicating) genes. It is hard to say how long, or how far,
God will let man go in this process. Daniel 12:3,4 says, And they that be wise shall
shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the
stars for ever and ever. But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even
to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and KNOWLEDGE SHALL BE
INCREASED. Knowledge as to the genetic makeup of man is apparently increasing
dramatically, and swiftly. Whether that helps man like he thinks it will, is yet to be
seen.
When man
was working feverishly to place a man on the moon, I heard a Christian lady say, God
will never let man land on the moon! Man is trying to go somewhere that he should not
be! Psalm 115:16 does say, The heaven, even the heavens, are the
Lord's: but THE EARTH hath he given to the children of men. Well, as we have seen,
God did allow man to land on the moon, but man does not live there, as some dreamed that
he would after achieving that milestone. Isaiah 45:18 says, For thus saith the LORD
that created the heavens; God himself that FORMED THE EARTH and made it; he hath
established it, he created it not in vain, HE FORMED IT TO BE INHABITED: I am the
LORD; and there is none else.
The Bible
is true, that God did not form the moon to be inhabited by man. But the Bible never said
that God forbid man to land on it. Man had big ideas that people would soon be living on
the moon. But the fact remains that there are not the things on the moon that man needs to
sustain life there. He has to take those things there from earth. And at this day, it is
too expensive for man to live there on the moon.
I just
cannot say how far God will let man go in this genome project, or if it will really help
as much as man thinks that it will. Just like with the moon landing, man thought that it
opened up a new frontier which would rapidly expand, but after over 30 years, it has not.
Some men
see this project as better than medicine. They say that they will be able to
check a persons DNA, and tell them if they are going to one day get cancer, or other
sicknesses. Others dream further, and envision testing and correcting faulty
DNA in small children, so that they do not get cancer, etc.
The problem that will
arise with this whole subject, is that man will eventually try cloning not just to
replicate good cells to overcome disease, but to try and control what he wants to be born.
What we are talking about is cloning for HAIR COLOR. Do you want a blonde baby, or
brunette? We are talking about GENDER. Do you want a boy, or a girl? We are talking about
SIZE, STRENGTH, or SPEED.
Think of
all the money that sports players get today. What if you had the ability to clone the best
of them? That would gain you the advantage in having an unbeatable team. Some would make a
lot of money off of that, and a serious question would be, Is the result subject to
a patent? If so, then what you have is a new type of slavery. We are talking about MENTAL
ABILITY. What if you could clone the best minds? Think of the military advantage, or the
business advantage from such an ability. Man now practices the select breeding
of animals, but we are talking about something which is far more technical than that. The
problem is that man is not an animal, but has been created in the image of God. To tamper
like that with mankind, is to sin against God. How far God lets man go in this area is yet
to be seen. It would eventually lead to man trying to duplicate what he wants, instead of
what God wants. It reminds me a lot of what Hitler wanted to do build a
super-race. That super-race did not happen to include Jews,
We are to
leave certain things in Gods hands. Matthew 5:36 says, Neither shalt thou
swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one HAIR WHITE OR BLACK.
Matthew
6:25-29 says, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall
eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life
more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not,
neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye
not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add ONE CUBIT UNTO HIS
STATURE? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they
grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in
all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Genesis
2:19-24 says, And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field,
and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call
them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the
field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a
deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the
flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a
woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones,
and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and
they shall be one flesh.
Psalms
139:5-16 says, Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such
knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend
up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art
there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost
parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If
I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea,
the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the
light are both alike to thee. For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast
covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully
made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My
substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought
in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect;
and IN THY BOOK ALL MY MEMBERS WERE WRITTEN, WHICH IN CONTINUANCE WERE FASHIONED, WHEN AS
YET THERE WAS NONE OF THEM.
The birth
of a human being is to be left in Gods care.
