Is corporal punishment for adults biblical?

q.gif (1639 bytes)   Is corporal punishment for adults Biblical?

a.gif (1659 bytes)   Corporal punishment is physical punishment. We hear a lot about capital punishment (which is the death penalty), but we do not hear much about corporal punishment.

Deuteronomy 25:1-3 says, "If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked. And it shall be, IF THE WICKED MAN BE WORTHY TO BE BEATEN, THAT THE JUDGE SHALL CAUSE HIM TO LIE DOWN, AND TO BE BEATEN BEFORE HIS FACE, according to his fault, by a certain number.   Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee."

Proverbs 10:13,14 says, "In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but A ROD IS FOR THE BACK OF HIM THAT IS VOID OF UNDERSTANDING.  Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction."

Proverbs 26:3 says, "A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and A ROD FOR THE FOOL’S BACK."

So, yes, the Bible does teach that adults are to be physically punished for crimes that a judge deems so worthy. Today, a criminal can beat up a poor victim of his crime, and then turn around and sue the police officers if they get too rough with him when they apprehend him. He can inflict as much pain and torture as he wants upon his victims, but no one can then hurt him in any way. We are living in an unbiblical system of laws, and are thus facing violent crime all around us. If a criminal knew that he would have as much pain inflicted upon him as he inflicted upon his victims, he would think twice about hurting anyone.

We need to pray for our country and for our leaders. If biblical punishment for crimes was followed, which is: restitution, capital punishment, and corporal punishment, we could save millions and millions of dollars a year in taxes. New jails would not have to be built, and crime would be swiftly and drastically reduced. God’s way is always the right way and the best way. We need to pray for our leaders, that they would get saved, and that they would then govern biblically.
