Subject: What was Elisha's reward?

q.gif (1639 bytes)   How Did God reward Elisha?

.

a.gif (1659 bytes)   We know that God did not catch up Elisha in the air, like He did Elijah.  With Elijah, we see in 2 Kings 2:11,  “And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.”  But with Elisha, we see in 2 Kings 13:14,  “Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.”  And then in 2 Kings 13:20,  “And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.”

As to God’s heavenly reward for Elisha, it will no doubt be great.  Elisha made a very wise request for his life in 2 Kings 2:9-10, “And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.   And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.”  Revelation 11:18 says, “And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.”

What kind of an eternal reward will Elisha get?  There is so much that we do not see, and do not know, that God does see and know.  1 Corinthians 4:5 says, “Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.”  Luke 13:29-30 says, “And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.   And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.”
