What is the difference between "faith" and "belief?"
The words
faith
and
belief are synonyms, that is, they are
used interchangeably in Scripture.
Acts 16:31 says, "And
they said,
BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be
saved, and thy house.”
Ephesians
2:8 “For by grace are ye
saved
through FAITH; and that not of
yourselves: it is
the gift of God.”
You have to “believe” on the Lord Jesus
Christ to be saved.
You have to have “faith” to be saved.
Believe
and
faith are synonyms.
Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt
confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt
BELIEVE in
thine heart that God hath raised him
from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Luke 7:50
says, "And he said to the woman,
Thy FAITH
hath saved thee; go in peace.”
You
have to “believe” to be saved.
You have to have “faith” to be saved.”
Believe
and faith
are synonyms.
In many verses of Scripture, the words are both used
in the same verses.
Romans 3:22 says, "Even
the righteousness of God which is
by
faith of Jesus Christ unto all and
upon all them that believe:
for there is no difference.”
Romans 4:11 says, “And he received the
sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the
faith
which he had yet
being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that
believe,
though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them
also.”
2 Corinthians 4:13 says, “We
having the same spirit of
faith,
according as it is written, I
believed,
and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.”
Hebrews 11:6 says,
"But
without
faith it is
impossible to please him:
for he that cometh to God must believe
that he is, and that
he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
The New Testament was written in Greek, and the words faith and believe are from the same root word.
