How does
God talk to us today?
A person said to me God doesn't talk to me. I have
never heard Him. What Scriptures can I use to prove to that person that God certainly does
talk to them. I would appreciate more than one.
.
We often use terms that unsaved
people will not understand without some explanation. When we say that "God spoke to
my heart that I should do this...," we do not mean that He talked audibly to us. That
would be adding to Gods revelation. What we mean is that God speaks to us through
His Word, the Bible. Psalm 119:96-104 says, "I have seen an end of all perfection:
but thy commandment is exceeding broad. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the
day. Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever
with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my
meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts. I have
refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word. I have not departed
from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me. How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea,
sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate
every false way." As you can clearly see from those verses, God is speaking to David
through His Word.
How do we prove Gods will for our lives? Does God need to tell us
audibly, for us to be sure? No. God did speak audibly in the New Testament on one
occasion, and some of the people still did not believe they just said that it
thundered. John 12:28,29 says, "Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice
from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. The people
therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel
spake to him." We can prove Gods will through Gods Word. Romans 12:1,2
says, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your
bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
How do we know if God is displeased with something in our lives? It is
through His Word. Psalm 119:9-11 says, "Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his
way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee:
O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might
not sin against thee."
The thing to explain to someone is that God does speak to us through
His Word, the Bible. That is why we need to read it faithfully. That is where we will get
faith, and that is how we please God. Romans 10:17 says, "So then faith cometh by
hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Hebrews 11:6 says, "But without faith
it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and
that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
