Subject: How long should men wear their hair?
If you don't mind me asking,
how should African American men have their hair? Can it be shoulder
length, or a little neck length?
.
The matter of hair deals
with any nationality of man. 1 Corinthians 11:14-15 says, “Doth not even nature
itself teach you, that, if a man have long
hair, it is a shame unto him? But
if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her
hair is given her for a covering.” A man’s hair should never be close to
the length of a woman’s hair. There should be a clear distinction in the
lengths.
Ezekiel 44:20 says of the priests, “Neither shall they shave their heads, nor suffer their locks to grow long; they shall only poll their heads.” God said that men should not shave their heads; nor should they cause their locks to grow long; but that they should “poll” their heads.
The word “poll” means “the top or back of the head” (Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary). So God wanted men to have their hair cut on the tops and backs of their heads. That would rule out any shoulder length hair upon men, because the cutting is being done on the top and back of the head, meaning that the length of the hair would be 1/4” to 2” long on the top of the head, approximately.
