"Who is the Prophet of Deuteronomy 18:15?"
Who
is the prophet in Deuteronomy 18:15? And if it is Jesus how can He be both God and a
prophet?
The
LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren,
like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken (Deuteronomy 18:15).
Repent
ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of
refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And he shall send Jesus Christ, which
before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution
of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world
began. FOR MOSES TRULY SAID UNTO THE FATHERS, A PROPHET SHALL THE LORD YOUR GOD RAISE UP
UNTO YOU OF YOUR BRETHREN, LIKE UNTO ME; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he
shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that
prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel
and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.
Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers,
saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. Unto
you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away
every one of you from his iniquities (Acts 3:19-26).
This
Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send
to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.
He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and
in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years. This is that Moses, which said unto the
children of Israel, A PROPHET SHALL THE LORD YOUR GOD RAISE UP UNTO YOU OF YOUR BRETHREN,
LIKE UNTO ME; him shall ye hear. This is he,
that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount
Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: To whom our
fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again
into Egypt (Acts 7:35-39).
When
Moses came the first time to deliver the children of Israel, they did not accept him. And it came to pass in those days, when Moses
was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied
an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren. And he looked this way and that way,
and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand. And
when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he
said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow? And he said, Who made
thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the
Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known. Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to
slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and
he sat down by a well (Exodus 2:11-15). But
40 years later, when God brought him back, they did accept him as their deliverer to get
out of Egypt.
When
Jesus came the first time, He was despised and rejected of men, and hated by His own
people. He was in the world, and the
world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own
received him not (John 1:10-11). He
is despised and rejected of men; a man of
Yes,
Jesus is referred to as being a Prophet. A
prophet is one who utters divinely inspired revelations; the writer of one of the
prophetic books of the Bible; one regarded by a group of followers as the final
authoritative revealer of God's will (Merriam-Websters 11th Collegiate
Dictionary).
And
when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that
they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James,
and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then
hath this man all these things? And they were offended in him. But JESUS SAID unto them, A
PROPHET IS NOT WITHOUT HONOUR, SAVE IN HIS OWN COUNTRY, AND IN HIS OWN HOUSE. And he did
not many mighty works there because of their unbelief (Matthew 13:54-58).
And
when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? And the
multitude said, THIS IS JESUS THE PROPHET of Nazareth of Galilee (Matthew 21:10-11).
Now
when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the
only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And
when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And he came
and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say
unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up,
and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on all: and
THEY GLORIFIED GOD, SAYING, THAT A GREAT PROPHET IS RISEN UP AMONG US; and, That God hath
visited his people (Luke 7:12-16).
The
same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart
hence: for Herod will kill thee. And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold,
I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be
perfected. Nevertheless I MUST WALK TO DAY, AND TO MORROW, AND THE DAY FOLLOWING: FOR IT
CANNOT BE THAT A PROPHET PERISH OUT OF JERUSALEM (Luke 13:31-33).
And
the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger
in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, CONCERNING JESUS OF NAZARETH,
WHICH WAS A PROPHET MIGHTY IN DEED AND WORD before God and all the people: And how the
chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified
him. But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all
this, to day is the third day since these things were done (Luke 24:18-21).
Yes,
Jesus is God.
For
unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his
shoulder: and HIS NAME SHALL BE CALLED Wonderful, Counsellor, THE MIGHTY GOD, The
everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
But
UNTO THE SON HE SAITH, THY THRONE, O GOD, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness
is the sceptre of thy kingdom (Hebrews
1:8).
And
she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt CALL HIS NAME JESUS: for he shall save his
people from their sins. Now all this was done,
that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a
virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall CALL HIS NAME
EMMANUEL, WHICH BEING INTERPRETED IS, GOD WITH US
(Matthew 1:21-23).
Let
not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house
are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for
you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto
myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye
know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the
way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me. IF YE HAD KNOWN ME, YE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN MY FATHER ALSO: AND FROM
HENCEFORTH YE KNOW HIM, AND HAVE SEEN HIM. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the
Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and
yet hast thou not known me, Philip? HE THAT HATH SEEN ME HATH SEEN THE FATHER; and how
sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? (John 14:1-9).
