Where does
the spirit of a Christian go after death?
When we die, where will our spirit/soul be? Please
explain in
detail. Thanks.
.
Jesus
said in Luke 23:39-43, "And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him,
saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him,
saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed
justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus
said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, TO DAY SHALT THOU BE WITH ME IN PARADISE."
James 2:26 says, "For as THE BODY WITHOUT THE SPIRIT IS DEAD, so
faith without works is dead also." When a person dies, that means that his/her spirit
leaves the body. For the repentant thief, that meant that his spirit then went to paradise
(that very day), where Jesus also was. "TO DAY SHALT THOU BE WITH ME IN
PARADISE."
Where is paradise? The Bible also answers that question. II Corinthians
12:1-4 says, "It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions
and revelations of the Lord. I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in
the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an
one CAUGHT UP TO THE THIRD HEAVEN. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of
the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was CAUGHT UP INTO PARADISE, and heard
unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter." So
"paradise" is clearly the "third heaven," the dwelling place of God.
II Chronicles 30:27 says, "their prayer came up to HIS HOLY DWELLING PLACE, EVEN UNTO
HEAVEN."
The Christian has the promise in II Corinthians 5:8, "We are
confident, I say, and willing rather to be ABSENT WITH THE BODY, and to be PRESENT WITH
THE LORD."
Do you have that assurance today? Jesus died on the cross to pay for
your sin. If you will repent of your sin and receive Jesus Christ, He will save you today.
