How could America be "Christian" in its beginning, if it did not even allow women to vote?

  Your website says that this country wasn't begun with the granting of women the 'right' to murder unborn babies and I ask you, if women didn't have the right to vote when this country was begun, how was it Christian in its roots?

  The first thing that God ordained was not a country and a government, but the HOME. Genesis 2:15-24 says, "And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed".

In that home, God ordained that the man be the head. First, because of the order of creation. I Timothy 2:11-13 says, "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. FOR ADAM WAS FIRST FORMED, then Eve." The second reason that God ordained the man to lead the home, was because Eve was deceived by the serpent. Both Adam and Eve sinned and ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, but Eve really believed that they would be better off for eating of it, whereas Adam knew that it was wrong. I Timothy 2:14 says, "And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." So it is the man that has been ordained to lead in the home. This does not mean that the woman did not get a chance to give her input in the home, but that the man was responsible to make the final decisions.  So the home was first, long before there were countries and governments.

When governments did come into existence, they followed the proper order of the home; that is, that women did not hold leadership positions. When our country was founded, it was founded upon biblical principles. It was not necessarily founded by all born-again Christians, but by religious men who did at least revere the Bible. So it was only natural that the men made the decisions regarding the running of this country. If you could somehow go back into the homes of the founding fathers of our nation, I think you would find that a woman's greatest input was in her proper place in the home.  The husband came home from work and talked with his wife.  In that way, he got her feelings on matters that he had faced all day long.  The truth of the matter is that probably the wives of the founding fathers of this land did not desire to get involved in actual ballot casting, but probably fully trusted their husbands to make the right decisions.  When the home is right, there is a mutual trust between husbands and wives.  Proverbs 31:11,12 says "The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life."

We are living in a day where the Bible is not followed very closely. Women are instructed to be virtuous keepers at home, and if they supplement the household income, they are to do it from a home-based business. Titus 2:4,5 says, "That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, KEEPERS AT HOME, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." Proverbs 31:10-31 says, "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates."

A wife is only told to submit herself to one man — her husband. When she gets a job outside of the home, then she places herself under the authority of another man or woman. Eventually, that is going to conflict with her husband’s place of authority. Usually, the working wife will do whatever her boss says that she must do, rather than follow the wishes of her husband. That is the love of money, instead of a love for her husband. Matthew 6:24 says, "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

As women have drifted away from their biblical place in the home, they have become more and more independent of their husbands. It soon becomes, "Her own car," and "Her own money," and "Her own decisions."  It was thus only natural that they began to make a cry for equal weight in making decisions. In the biblical home, a husband will carefully listen to his wife’s thoughts on a matter. Then, after prayer and seeking the face of God, he must make the final decision.

In this country, it would not have been godly women who first cried out for the right to vote, because they already had great weight in their husband's decisions.  It would have been the women of the world who were out of their proper place in their homes, that felt left out of the process.  The temperature of our nation is but a reflection of the temperature of our homes.

Today, with all women allowed to vote, it is of necessity that Christian women must also cast their vote for righteousness.  This should only be done after spending time with their husbands, and getting the proper perspective of the candidates and issues.  The wise woman will remember that Eve was easily deceived by the serpent, and so she will go to her husband for wisdom and counsel about voting.

But back to your original question, this country was much more Christian in its roots than it is today. Women and men are more out of touch with God’s will than ever. Women voting have not helped that situation. When you have a nation full of ungodly people, and they have the right to choose their own way, what you have is a picture of what it was like in the Book of Judges. Judges 17:6 says, "In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes."
