How often are we to observe the Lord's Supper?
Does the Bible say that we have to have (the) Lord's Supper every week? Acts 20:7, please explain.
1 Corinthians 11:26 says, "For AS OFTEN AS YE EAT THIS BREAD, AND DRINK THIS CUP, ye do show the Lord's death till he come." It does not state "how often," but just that we are to observe this ordinance of the local church. Some churches observe the Lord's Supper every month; some once every other month; some once a quarter; some once every six months; some once a year, etc. It is up to the local church to decide how often they observe it.
Acts 20:7 says, "And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight." The first day of the week is Sunday. "Breaking bread" does not just refer to the Lord's Supper, but also to eating together. Acts 2:46 says, "And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart."
