q.gif (1639 bytes)    I am a Christian and believe that if the Bible says do not eat swine then it is unfair to ask the question "Why do Christians eat pork?" So my question is what brings you to the conclusion that we Christians eat pork..? My brother and I do not eat swine/pork. Where are you getting your info? We read the Old Testament as well.

a.gif (1659 bytes)   Colossians 2:13-17 says, "And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; BLOTTING OUT THE HANDWRITING OF ORDINANCES THAT WAS AGAINST US, which was contrary to us, AND TOOK IT OUT OF THE WAY, NAILING IT TO HIS CROSS; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. LET NO MAN THEREFORE JUDGE YOU IN MEAT, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ." All of the ordinances in regard to clean and unclean meats, holy water, holy days, new moons, and sabbath days were blotted out when Jesus died on the cross. He took all of our uncleanness, our sins, upon Himself when He died on the cross.

These laws were not just cancelled, but were all fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Matthew 5:17,18 says, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I AM NOT COME TO DESTROY, BUT TO FULFIL. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, TILL ALL BE FULFILLED."

To place yourself back under the Old Testament Law would be to place yourself back under the curse of sin. Galatians 3:10-13 says, "FOR AS MANY AS ARE OF THE WORKS OF THE LAW ARE UNDER THE CURSE: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. CHRIST HATH REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW, BEING MADE A CURSE FOR US: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree."

God revealed to Peter that things had changed because of the fulfillment of Jesus Christ taking our sin upon Himself on the cross. Acts 10:9-16 says, "On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: Wherein were ALL MANNER OF FOURFOOTED BEASTS of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, RISE, PETER; KILL, AND EAT. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice spake unto him again the second time, WHAT GOD HATH CLEANSED, THAT CALL NOT THOU COMMON. This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven."

The church is told very clearly that in the end times the devil will spread false doctrines -- and one of them will be in regard to not eating meat. I Timothy 4:1-6 says, "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, GIVING HEED TO SEDUCING SPIRITS, AND DOCTRINES OF DEVILS; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and COMMANDING TO ABSTAIN FROM MEATS, WHICH GOD HATH CREATED TO BE RECEIVED WITH THANKSGIVING OF THEM WHICH BELIEVE AND KNOW THE TRUTH. FOR EVERY CREATURE OF GOD IS GOOD, AND NOTHING TO BE REFUSED, IF IT BE RECEIVED WITH THANKSGIVING: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained."
