Question:
Hi, I was on your web page about a Christian’s appearance and I thought I needed to clear up some things that you are stating as fact. I have been a cop for quite some time now and have worked in places that I would have rather not been in, but it wasn’t my call. But one thing I have noticed in this walk of life is that most of the long haired men I have seen are definitely not gay, of course some I wouldn’t call Christian, but a lot let you know clearly that they are. But on the other hand all the gay men that I have come across are very well groomed short haired men and some profess to be Christian and attend church on a regular basis. So does the Great One, who loves all, lock the doors on both groups or what? And I want to know if during any time that I had long hair and working undercover if something would have gone wrong and I got killed, would I have gone to Heaven or would he have turned his back on me? Or would Jesus speak up and say “He’s one of mine?”.
Answer:
Thank you for your note. You said, “…one thing I have noticed in this walk of life is that most of the long haired men I have seen are definitely not gay.”
Our literature does not say that all long-haired men are sodomites, but that the Bible says that long hair on a man is NOT a masculine trait, and it is a shame to him. I Corinthians 11:14,15 says, “Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.” It is very clear, if you watch them, that men with long hair conduct themselves with feminine characteristics, because of their long hair with which they must contend.
As to growing your hair long to do undercover work, that is a principle that every Christian has to face when working in this world. “If my boss asks me to do something that the Bible forbids, should I do it?” That is when we have to take a stand, and follow the Lord. Acts 5:29 says, “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”
As to the matter of losing salvation, that is impossible, because true salvation does not rest with our ability to obey God, but in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. If your salvation depends upon you continuing to do right, then your salvation would be a “works” salvation, and that is a FALSE salvation. Ephesians 2:8,9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” I would encourage you to check out the Eternal Security Bible Course on the Web Site. We would be happy to send you the printed copy, if you will let us know where to send it.
God does not “close the doors” on these two groups of people, and will save any long-haired man or sodomite that comes to Him in an attitude of repentance and faith. Acts 3:19 says, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.” II Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” John 1:12 says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”
