Chapter 5
V. See The Assurance of Salvation.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God;
that ye may know that ye have eternal life. (I John 5:13)
A. You can never lose your salvation because of Jesus payment.
1. Hebrews 10:12 says that Jesus offered ______ sacrifice for sins for ________.
2. Hebrews 9:12 tells us that Jesus, by His own blood, entered in ________ into the holy place, having obtained ______________ redemption for us.
Note: Jesus paid for all the sins that every person has ever committed, or ever will commit. He did this by offering one sacrifice for all eternity.
3. According to Hebrews 10:17, God will remember our sins ____ more.
4. Psalms 103:12 says that as far as the east is from the west, so far has God ______________ our transgressions from us.
When we sin after we are saved, it does not affectour relationship to God, but our fellowship.
5. 1 John 1:9 says that when we ______________ our sins, God will forgive us and cleanse us.
relationship = the state of being related to someone
fellowship = the state of being able to communicate
or to share in common with someone
Illustration: If a wife burns the supper in the oven, does that mean that the marriage relationship is broken? No, of course not. She has made a mistake which may harm their fellowship, their communication, that evening, but it certainly would not end their relationship.
If a husband forgets to bring home something to his wife on their wedding anniversary, does that mean that they are no longer married? No, of course not. But that mistake will probably cost him some fellowship, some communication with his wife, until he apologizes.
In the same way, when we sin after we are saved, it does
not affect our relationship with God, but our fellowship.
We do not lose our salvation, but we lose the ability to
communicate with God until we confess our sin.
6. Psalm 66:18 says that if we regard sin in our hearts, then the Lord will not ________ us when we pray.
Note: To keep a marriage running smoothly, mates must be willing to apologize when they do something wrong; otherwise, they will soon quit speaking to each other.
Even so, if we want God to hear our prayers if we want to have communication with Him, then we must be willing to confess our sins to Him.
B. You can never lose your salvation because of Jesus promise.
1. In John 6:37, Jesus says that those who come to Him, He will in no wise (for no reason) cast ______.
2. John 10:28 shows that saved people are in Jesus hand, and that they can __________ perish, nor can any person pluck them ______ of His hand.
3. According to the next verse, they are also in the Fathers hand, and no person is able to pluck them ______ of His hand.
The picture is given that we are safely in Jesus hand, and that no one can ever hope to break His strong grip
upon us. Then, outside of His hand is pictured the
Fathers hand. And no one can break His grip,
for He is greater than all. No one, not even the
devil, can break open Gods hand and cause
us to fall out and lose our salvation.
4. Romans 10:13 says that whosoever calls upon the Lord to save them, __________ be saved.
Note: You can never go forward in the Christian life, until you know for sure that you are saved, and that Jesus will never forsake you. That verse did not say might be saved it said shall be saved.
