What is the proper view on abortion?

Question:

What is the proper view on abortion?

Answer:

According to the Bible, abortion is murdering a living person. Psalm 139:13-16 says, “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and IN THY BOOK ALL MY MEMBERS WERE WRITTEN, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.” You will notice here that God has every member or part of the baby all written down, before the baby is even completely formed. In other words, God has a plan for THAT LIFE.Continue reading

Does the Bible really speak against abortion?

  Question:

I have heard again and again from the pope to the evangelists that abortion is sinful, evil, murder, an affront to god, an insult to life, etc. Yet going through my bible’s and a Q’ran I find passage after passage indicating that human life begins at the first breath rather than conception. Some passages even indicate that one doesn’t become fully human until a month or so after birth. Given these passages, how do all these clergy come to the conclusion that abortion is wrong? Can you show some straight forward passages to indicate life begins at conception rather than at the first breath? Is it really forbidden biblically, or is the current stand against abortion due mostly to the fact that most abortions taking place today are to address the results of fornication and the removal of consequences from the act of fornication will weaken the roll religion plays in society?  (Section dealing with the different passages of Scripture listed, which will be dealt with later in this answer.) I am not making an argument for or against abortion.  I am simply pointing out that my own readings seem to directly contradict the views of most established churches. Both the Bible and the Koran indicate again and again in different contexts that our lives start at our first breath and end with our last. What is the clergy reading which leads them to conclude a fetus is a life and that abortion is murder?  Various biblical one-liners are quoted to inspire people to protest abortion clinics and allow themselves to be arrested. Threats are common so many clinic employees routinely wear body armor to and from work. There have been bombings, assaults and shootings over the years. In all these years I have never heard where a fetus is specifically defined as a life in any of the scriptures but have seen many verses indicating the contrary. What are religious leaders reading that has inspired such strong reactions to the termination of unwanted pregnancies? On your site you quote Psalm 139:13-16 and explain its meaning as “You will notice here that God has every member or part of the baby all written down, before the baby is even completely formed. ” If god has such a plan, that plan exists BEFORE conception? The passage indicates there is a life plan for each of us, but it does not indicate what that plan is. Perhaps god’s plan regarding a given fetus is for the fetus to be aborted before it becomes a complete being. Gleaning anything from this passage regarding when a fetus becomes a human life seems murky at best especially when held against the various passages I have included.  I have looked at other passages which are supposed to show that life begins at conception, but to me it requires generous amounts of imagination mixed with scholastic masochism to come to reach the conclusion that the bible is saying life begins at conception. If life does begin at conception, than why is that not spelled out clearly and why does it say in so many places that a fetus does not become human until the first breath? Why is the beginning of life defined so complexly that only a trained theologian can understand?Continue reading

When does the soul enter the body?

Question:

When and how does the soul enter the body?

Answer:

Genesis 2:7 says, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” When a person begins to live, that person becomes a living soul. That moment would be at conception. The baby is a living person from the moment of conception.

Question:

Is adoption Biblical?

Answer:

Mordecai adopted Esther.  Esther 2:5-7 says, “Now in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite; Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away. And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, TOOK HER FOR HIS OWN DAUGHTER.”

Is paying money an acceptable punishment for abortion?

Question:

I was reading your previous questions and answers, and I stumbled upon the one entitled “What is the proper view on abortion?” and I noticed you conveniently left out Exodus 21:22-25 where it states that abortion is alright as long as there is some sort of repayment, be it monetary or physical.   Hmmmmmmmmmmmm….  It’s not right to pick and choose at your whim, and leave out pertinent information to suit your needs, seems ignorant to me, but maybe I am mistaken, in which case, I apologize.

Answer:

Exodus 21:22-25 says, “If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.”Continue reading
