K.J.V. Only

Question:

Thank you for taking my question. I am a pastoral student at a fundamentalist school, as a fundamentalist I believe in the old time faith. I want to defend the gospel handed down to me by my mentors and by the Lord and his apostles. Yet I have a question. I have heard a lot of opinions on KJV onlyism, what does the Bible say about the King James Version. Please do not think my question to be a loaded one, I merely want to know what the Bible says, and I want my faith and belief to be guided by that, thank you for your time.

Answer:

This is a subject which can get very deep in research, but I like your question. You want to know what the Bible says about the subject. A priest wrote and asked how we know that the Bible is the Word of God. This is part of what I told him:Continue reading

Do you teach the Bible, or your opinion?

Question:

Do you really believe and teach “Bible only”, or, do you believe and teach someone’s opinion; that is, what you have been taught?

Answer:

Isaiah 8:20 says, “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Proverbs 19:21 says, “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.” Proverbs 21:30 says, “There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.” Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”Continue reading

What about all the great Bible teachers who say that words are mistranslated in the KJV?

Question:

I’ve always heard Dr. McGee and other great Bible teachers talk about all the words that are mistranslated in the KJV.  Any comments?

Answer:

As to J. Vernon McGee, he was subject to the same frailty that we are today, and also that C. I. Scofield was in his day. In Scofield’s day, to be “scholarly” in Bible teaching, they felt they had to answer the “supposed fact” that the world was “millions” and “billions” of years old. To do so, Bible teachers came up with the “Gap Theory.” That was a “supposed gap” between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. A “gap” big enough to hold the “millions and billions” of years that the scientists said were a “fact.” The problem is that there was no need to answer the world with their millions and billions of years, because they were wrong.  I Timothy 6:20,21 says, “O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and OPPOSITIONS OF SCIENCE FALSELY SO CALLED: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.”Continue reading

How did the writers of Scripture get to be such authorities?

Question:

How did Paul become an authority on the messages Christ was delivering, if he never heard his sermons or spoke with Christ concerning his sermons?

Answer:

II Timothy 3:16,17 tells us, “All SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” We must remember that God inspired His Word — not men. His Word is perfect. Psalm 12:6,7 says, “The WORDS OF THE LORD ARE PURE WORDS: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” It is THE WORD that was given perfect and without error. The Bible never claims that THE MEN God gave His Word to were perfect in any way. They were but sinners, like you and I — sinners that God used for His glory.Continue reading

Who wrote the Bible?

Question:

Who wrote the Bible?

Answer:

God used certain chosen men to write down exactly what He wanted in His Word. II Peter 1:20,21 says, “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but HOLY MEN OF GOD SPAKE AS THEY WERE MOVED BY THE HOLY GHOST.”Continue reading

Who really said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”?

Question:

I have a question about the writings from the Bible. In the book of Acts 20:35 it states that Paul is talking with his followers and states to them to remember the words of Jesus “It is better to give that to receive”. I have searched the books of the four gospels and cannot find such a statement made by Jesus to anyone did Jesus say it or not?? Thank you very much.

Answer:

Acts 20:32-36 says, “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel. Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. I have showed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, AND TO REMEMBER THE WORDS OF THE LORD JESUS, HOW HE SAID, IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE. And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all”.Continue reading

Is there a contradiction in the Bible as to the number of Jesse’s sons? Did he have seven…, or eight?

Question:

I am a born again Christian having been saved on Sept. 10 1995 at the age of 48. Since then I have read through the Bible once each year and found a couple of things that trouble me because I have always believed the Bible to be the inerrant word of God. Here they are: 1st Samuel 16:1-13 Tells us about Jesse’s sons filing in front of Samuel. Seven sons walk before Samuel and Samuel asks Jesse if he has any more sons. Jesse tells him about David. That would be 8 sons all together. 1st Chronicles 2:13-15 tells us that David was the seventh son of Jesse. How can this be true if the book of Samuel tells us he was the 8th son. Even if one brother died it doesn’t change the fact that David was number 8. Please explain.

Answer:

1 Samuel 16:1-13 says, “And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons. And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD. And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee. And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice. And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the Lord’s anointed is before him. But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this. Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this. Again, JESSE MADE SEVEN OF HIS SONS TO PASS BEFORE SAMUEL. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these. And Samuel said unto Jesse, ARE HERE ALL THY CHILDREN? AND HE SAID, THERE REMAINETH YET THE YOUNGEST, AND, BEHOLD, HE KEEPETH THE SHEEP. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.”Continue reading

Can people who tamper with the Bible be saved?

Question:

Are you saying that those who tamper with the Word of God cannot be saved from their sins?

Answer:

Revelation 22:17-19 says, “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”Continue reading
