What does it mean to be “slain in the spirit?”

Question:

I would like to some information in regards about slaying in the spirit from a biblical point of view.

Answer:

“Slaying in the spirit” is normally the phrase associated with someone being touched by a preacher, and then immediately falling backwards. Because of a woman who fell backwards and hit her head in the process, “catchers” are now usually behind the people to gradually let them down to the floor. Also, because these people frequently move around on the floor after being “slain in the spirit,” ladies are often covered with something so that they are not immodest. In some services, whole pews full of people have went down like a row of “dominoes” as the preacher has walked by, or has touched a person on the end of the row. People have testified that they have tried to get up after being “slain in the spirit,” but could not. They describe it as feeling like “some force holding them down.”Continue reading

What about women preachers in the Charismatic Movement?

Question:

1 Corinthians 14:34,35    Many times this Chapter and verses are brought up in Bible Study and I would like to know if this still holds true?  I see on TBN television station women preaching, is that biblical?

Answer:

I Corinthians 14:34,35 says, “LET YOUR WOMEN KEEP SILENCE IN THE CHURCHES: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And IF THEY WILL LEARN ANY THING, LET THEM ASK THEIR HUSBANDS AT HOME: for IT IS A SHAME FOR WOMEN TO SPEAK IN THE CHURCH.”Continue reading

What about the 700 Club?

Question:

What is your opinion on the 700 club? I was watching it the other night and at the end when they prayed for people’s ailments that just happened to pop up in their head. Seemed more like a physic hotline or something?

Answer:

Please refer to a recent question “Does God promise to heal everyone who comes to Him?

The 700 Club is a Charismatic Organization. They do not believe the clear teaching that it is not God’s will to heal everyone of their ailments. Sometimes, God gets more glory through our lives when we are weak — not when we are strong physically. II Corinthians 12:8-10 says, “For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”

I have not seen the 700 Club in years, but the last time that I did, it was more like a Hollywood performance, than a ministry. You will learn far more by spending your time reading the Bible, than by watching “Hollywood Christianity” that is so deeply in error today.

Is it scriptural to “dance or laugh in the Spirit?”

Question:

Coming up through the Pentecostal era, as a child I’ve been taught God’s Word, I have seen many moves of the Holy Spirit, but it is recently I’ve been questioning some things I took as Gospel. Can you tell me is it scriptural to “Dance in the Spirit” or to “Laugh in the Spirit?  I’m not talking about how David danced before the Lord.

Answer:

The dancing of the Pentecostal/Charismatic/Third Wave Movements is not scriptural, because they are immodest, and it is mass confusion. The Bible is very clear in I Corinthians 14:33, “For GOD IS NOT THE AUTHOR OF CONFUSION, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” Pentecostal/Charismatic meetings are a mass confusion of people dancing around, speaking out loud, and wild, rock music. The Bible clearly says that God is not the author of such confusion. Then who is? The devil.Continue reading

Does God promise to heal everyone who comes to Him?

Question:

Would you mind a small discourse on God’s healing? I have to deal with this often and I would like your opinion. When the Bible says that “By his stripes, you were healed.” does this mean “Physically” unto death, or “Spiritually” unto everlasting life?Continue reading

Does the Bible teach that we should “speak in tongues” today? q.gif (1639 bytes)

Question:

I have recently made many changes in my life, especially regarding my faith. I have been eagerly reading my Bible, finding all kinds of things that I had forgotten about and things that I did not know before. I have also recently moved to a new community and am attending a much more charismatic church. I know that it sounds as though I am rambling on but I come from what could be described as a more conservative church background than what I am currently enjoying. However I have noticed that the occurrence of “speaking in tongues” is very frequent among those people I consider friends. My question is this: I have read Paul’s chastisement of the Corinthian church, and have a tough time seeing how anyone could honestly use this passage as a justification for “speaking in tongues”. Am I wrong to think that tongues was a device used by God in the Acts church to being the Gentiles into the fold ( or those who did not speak Greek or Hebrew ) and used these foreign languages that had never been studied by those who were given this gift and that this gift is not even for today? (sorry for the run-on sentence) It doesn’t seem to make sense to me. I don’t want to judge, but if what I am standing on is the truth of God in God’s word then I must show them this. I am slightly intimidated with the task that I feel I must do. Thanks for listening.Continue reading

Ecumenical permission, or true Biblical unity?

Question:

Question: Mark 9:38-41, & Luke 9:49,50. ??  In these two passages of scripture we see John telling the Lord they had saw a man casting out devils in Christs Name.John said they forbade him because he followed them not. I’m assuming this man was not one of the Lords disciples here, as he followed not the Apostles and they did not recognise his authority to do such things as casting out demons, not being a follower of Christ. Why then does the Lord say, “Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can speak lightly of me. For he that is not against us is on our part.” Mk. 9:39,40.  Now I am aware of the ecumenical movement of today, and the error and deception involved. My question is; Why did the Apostles get rebuked for forbidding this man? He wasn’t among the followers of the Lord. Some could use these passages to promote ecumenical unity, but what do you think?  Thought: Could this be the same thing the Apostle Paul meant in Philippians 1: 15-18??? Whether by pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached, and I therein do rejoice. This doesn’t seem to fit the scriptural command to be separate from the world, and yet not forsaking the assembling of yourselves together, i.e. the unity of the believers??  Perhaps you can offer some light into this for me, and thank you for your time and help.Continue reading

Is the present tongues/charismatic movement really of God, or of someone else?

Question:

I have a question about being baptized with the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues. I have a brief testimony, I’ve been saved about 2 years now and before then I haven’t been to church in years, I knew nothing about the Holy Ghost and tongues. The day when I asked Jesus to come into my life, that next moment I begin to thank Him and praise God for saving me and as I was doing so I felt a weakness in my legs until it overwhelmed me and as I begin to drop to the floor and yet still giving God thanks an uncontrollable utterance came out of my mouth which I could not understand. I now have more understanding, hunger, and thirst for Gods word. Was that of God or the devil. please explain Mark 16:17, 1 Cor.14:39, Thank you.Continue reading
