Why do Mormons say that they will one day be “gods?”

Question:

I have many friends who are Mormons. They claim that they can become gods. That seems rather strange to me and as if they have taken something (whatever) out of context. What are they talking about?

Answer:

The Mormons do wrongly believe that man can become a “god” himself one day. They actually believe that Adam was “God the Father,” and that it was Adam who came upon the virgin Mary, instead of the Holy Spirit, to conceive the Lord Jesus Christ. That is why they believe in polygamy (more than one wife) because they plan on being “gods of their own worlds” one day (like Jesus is of this universe, they say), and they thus have to “populate their new worlds.”Continue reading

What about the Christian Science Church?

Question:

What is your opinion on the church for Christ scientist?

Answer:

The Church for Christ Scientist is a cult. According to the Way of Life Encyclopedia, it was founded by a woman named Mary Baker Eddy. She taught that man is not sinful, and does not need to be saved. The Bible says that she is wrong. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”Continue reading

Is the International (Boston) Church of Christ a cult?

Question:

Is the International (Boston) Church of Christ a cult?

Answer:

If the information at the Web Site “http://www.angelfire.com/biz/IntChurchChrist/” is correct, then, yes, that group is definitely a cult (Note: One thing that I do not agree with on that site is that they use the NIV). The religious group in question rejects the Trinity; teaches that you cannot be saved unless you are baptized; teaches salvation, not through believing alone, by also by works; etc. Such beliefs do indeed characterize a cult.
