Did Jesus lose His temper in the Temple?

Question:

It says in proverbs An angry man stirs up strife, and a furious man abounds in transgression and it also says He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty and it also says.A man of great anger will suffer great punishment  The bible forbids loosing your temper yet Jesus did it in the temple and he whipped people. This cannot be righteous anger if he is harming someone with a whip.

Answer:

Proverbs 29:22 says, “An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.”

Proverbs 16:22 says, “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city”.

Proverbs 19:19 says, “A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.”

Matthew 21:12,13 says, “And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.”

Mark 11:15-17 says, “And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.”

Luke 19:45,46 says, “And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.”

John 2:13-17 says, “And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise. And his disciples remembered that it was written, The ZEAL of thine house hath eaten me up.”

Jesus did not lose His temper when He cast out those people and animals out of the Temple, but was filled with “zeal,” the Bible says. Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines “zeal” as “eagerness and ardent interest in pursuit of something, fervor, passion.”

You may have heard the term “righteous indignation.” It is an anger that is displayed against sin. It is not a sinful anger, but a holy and righteous hatred of sin. That is what Jesus displayed in the Temple. The Jews were bringing animals right into God’s house, and making it more like a barn, than a holy place to pray. Jesus was thoroughly disgusted at their disrespect of God’s house, and thus drove them all out of there.

The more righteous a person is, the more that person is going to hate sin. Proverbs 28:1 says, “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.” God is holy and righteous, and He hates sin. Psalm 7:11 says, “God judgeth the righteous, and GOD IS ANGRY WITH THE WICKED EVERY DAY.” One day, God’s wrath will be displayed to a greater extent. Revelation 14:10 says, “The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb.”

No one will ever be able to complain that God did not give man a chance to be saved. God has been very longsuffering with mankind. II Peter 3:3-9 says, “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is LONGSUFFERING to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
