The Japanese are coming!
Those words were terrifying to Leah, an 8 year old girl, born in Rizal, Negros Occidental, Philippines. The Japanese had attacked her country 4 years earlier, but the Philippines is made up of 7,641 islands—and trying to conquer them all was no small task.
Three families were hiding
in the mountains.
Leah’s family was among them. Someone in the group suggested that all the men take off, so that when the Japanese soldiers came, they would find only women and children; and, hopefully, move on.
For some reason, Leah’s father decided to take her with him in the group of men. When they figured it was safe, they came back.
To their horror, they discovered that the Japanese soldiers had killed every woman and child. Leah’s mother, and all three
of her sisters were dead.
This tragedy happened on March 23, 1945. Just 5 months later, on August 15, 1945, the Emperor of Japan would announce their surrender, after the USA dropped 2 atomic bombs on them. If only that happened 5 months earlier, Leah’s mother and sisters would be alive!
You may have some good things planned in 5 months—but what if you were tragically killed today?
“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” (Holy Bible, James 4:14, KJV) What is facing you after you die? “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” (Holy Bible, Hebrews 9:27, KJV) Are you ready for that judgment?
Leah was sent to live in a dorm with college girls, while her father, who was a pastor, was sent by some Americans to the USA to receive seminary training.
Leah never received another
gift for her birthday during
her entire childhood.
You might think that Leah had a good excuse to be bitter for the rest of her life: bitter against the Japanese for killing her mother and sisters; bitter against God for allowing them to be killed; bitter against her father for leaving her behind, when he went to the USA.
Instead, Leah chose to be blessed—not to be bitter.
“Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Holy Bible, Acts 20:35b, KJV)
Leah grew up and obeyed those words, determining that no child (or adult) around her, should ever have a birthday, without receiving a gift. She blessed multitudes of people with her special gifts for them.
But there was another gift, even more important, that Leah wanted people to have—
the gift of eternal life.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Holy Bible, Romans 6:23, KJV)
When Leah heard that a young man in the church was mailing the gospel to every home, she was excited to be a part of that.
What God asks us to do, He is willing to do Himself. He did not get bitter at man for sinning and disobeying Him; instead, He gave Himself to pay the penalty.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Holy Bible, Romans 5:8, KJV)
Are you bitter, or blessed?
“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you.” (Holy Bible, Ephesians 4:31a, KJV)
Who is the Lord Jesus Christ? The Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God, God Almighty in the flesh. He is Master, Savior, and Messiah; the Creator of heaven and earth. He died on the cross for you, and gave His pure, sinless blood to pay the wages of your sin, which is death. (Holy Bible, Romans 6:23, KJV) The Lord Jesus Christ then arose from the grave the third day, proving that His blood fully paid for your sins.
To be SAVED, you must CALL upon Him from your HEART. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD JESUS, and shalt BELIEVE in thine HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED.” “For whosoever shall CALL upon the NAME of the LORD shall be SAVED.” (Holy Bible, Romans 10:9,13, KJV)
Bow your head in prayer, and tell the Lord Jesus that you are sorry for your sin, and ask Him to save you.
After we ask the Lord Jesus Christ to save us, then God instructs us to openly confess Him by getting baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Baptism does not save us, it is a picture and testimony of us now identifying our lives with Jesus. When we go under the water, it pictures death to the old life of sin, and when we come up out of the water, it pictures a new life serving the Lord Jesus Christ.
Yes, I just asked the Lord Jesus Christ to save me, and I desire to now live for Him.
