Description
It was March 3, 1969, in the jungles of Viet Nam. Shortly after midnight, the radio suddenly came to life with a crying voice:
“They’re all dead!
Please… someone help us!”
A squad of Marines had been ambushed. They were my friends—my comrades. We had shared laughs and meals together, sitting in the dirt in Viet Nam.
Note: Your life could also end in a moment. “Their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand.” (Holy Bible, Deuteronomy 32:35, KJV)
Instinctively I jumped up,
asking for three volunteers.
“Yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.” (Holy Bible, Romans 5:7, KJV)
The volunteers came quickly, and I radioed back that we were coming. We had no spare radio, so we had to go with no communications.
On the way, we were
ambushed, and I was wounded.
My friend, Jesus “was wounded for our transgressions.” (Holy Bible, Isaiah 53:5, KJV)
We fought our way through, and found the beleaguered Marine squad. Using their radio, we called in supporting artillery fire, and drove the Vietnamese Army back.
God says, “Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” (Holy Bible, Psalm 50:15, KJV)
I had the dead and wounded Medi-vaced out, and then led the remain-ing Marines back to safer ground.
God is “My Rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.” (Holy Bible, Psalm 31:3, KJV)
Within a few days, I received
the Purple Heart Medal
for being wounded in combat.
I was also told that I would receive a recommendation for a Silver Star Medal, which is America’s third highest award for heroism—but year after year passed, and it seemed that I was forgotten. Years later, when my Marine friends heard about it, they quickly contacted the authorities.
After twenty-nine years, and
one hundred sixteen days,
I was finally awarded the
Silver Star Medal.
“That he may exalt you in DUE TIME.” (Holy Bible, I Peter 5:6, KJV)
How about you, my Christian friend, have you quit serving Christ, because you have grown tired, and have lost sight of the reward?
God is “Not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have showed toward his name.” (Holy Bible, Hebrews 6:10, KJV) “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” (Holy Bible, Revelation 22:12, KJV)
Have you forgotten about the glory of heaven awaiting us? Jesus said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (Holy Bible, John 14:2-3, KJV)
But if you are not saved, then you are only one heart beat away from this: “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” (Holy Bible, Matthew 25:41b, KJV)
Jesus can rescue you.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the virgin born Son of God, the Creator, God in the flesh. He was willing to die in our place, suffering the punishment for our sins. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Holy Bible, Romans 5:8, KJV) “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree” (the cross). (Holy Bible, 1 Peter 2:24a, KJV) The proof that Jesus successfully paid the wages of our sin (death), is the fact that He arose from the grave. (Holy Bible, 1 Corinthians 15:4b, KJV)
1) REPENT. “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation.” (Holy Bible, 2 Cor. 7:10, KJV) “For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.” (Holy Bible, Psalm 38:18, KJV)
2) RECEIVE. From your heart, call upon the Lord Jesus to save you. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD JESUS, and shalt BELIEVE in thine HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED.” “For whosoever shall CALL upon the NAME of the LORD shall be SAVED.” (Holy Bible, Romans 10:9,13, KJV) Receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior right now.
3) REJOICE. “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized.” (Holy Bible, Acts 2:41a, KJV) God instructs us to get baptized, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Baptism does not save us—it is just a picture of us identifying with Jesus’ death and burial (as we are placed down under the water), and with His resurrection (as we are brought up out of the water). Baptism shows our desire to now live for God. “Even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Holy Bible, Romans 6:4b, KJV)
Yes, I just asked the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive me and to save me, and I do want to now walk in that newness of life.
