The Gospel of Jesus

Question:

Explain the gospel of Jesus.

Answer:

The word “gospel” means “good news.” The good news is that man can be saved through Jesus Christ, because of His death, burial, and resurrection. I Corinthians 15:1-4 says, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are SAVED, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS according to the scriptures; And that HE WAS BURIED , and that HE ROSE AGAIN the third day according to the scriptures.”

The gospel has always been the same down through the ages. In the Old Testament, they looked ahead in faith to the Messiah who would come and save them. Acts 10:43 says, “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.” In Jesus’ day, they looked to the Messiah who had come to save them. John 1:29 says, “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” In our day, we look back to the Savior who has come and shed His blood for our sins. I Peter 2:24 says, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree.”

Part of the gospel message has always been “repentance.” Matthew 4:17 says, “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” In Luke 13:3, Jesus said, “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” A person cannot clean up himself, but there must be the desire to turn from his sin to Jesus Christ. From there, Jesus gives the power. John 1:12,13 says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

I have a question for you. Have you responded to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and asked Him to save you?
