Was it God’s will for Adam and Eve to sin, so we would have the opportunity to know the Savior?

Question:

Hello there. I have recently become a Christian and have many questions regarding our Faith. Any help or insight would certainly be appreciated. Thank you and Lord Bless You.  Was it the will of our Lord for Adam and Eve to sin? Was it God’s plan for sin to enter the world? Sometimes I think it was, because if they hadn’t, none of us would even have the opportunity to know our Savior.

Answer:

Genesis 2:15-17 says, “And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: BUT OF THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL, THOU SHALT NOT EAT OF IT: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

It was NOT God’s will for man to eat of that tree. God is holy and without sin. Leviticus 20:7,8 says, “Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. And ye shall KEEP MY STATUTES, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you.” I Peter 1:15,16 says, “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, BE YE HOLY; FOR I AM HOLY.” I John 2:1 says, “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye SIN NOT.”

You mentioned, “if they hadn’t (sinned), none of us would even have the opportunity to know our Savior.”

Actually, it was their sin that SEPARATED them from having fellowship with God. Genesis 3:6-10 says, “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and ADAM AND HIS WIFE HID THEMSELVES from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I HEARD THY VOICE in the garden, AND I WAS AFRAID, because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

After Adam and Eve sinned, they were separated from God, and they were afraid to go out to meet Him. It is sin that has separated us from God. Isaiah 59:2 says, “But YOUR INIQUITIES HAVE SEPARATED BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR GOD, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”

Because of sin, none of us have ever seen the Lord, and we will not be able to until He returns for us again. I Peter 1:8 says, “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.” I John 3:2 says, “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” If sin had not entered into the world, then we would not have had to wait for many years to see our Savior, but would have walked and talked with Him all the while we were upon earth, too.

Sin has left mankind alone, lost, and headed for hell. Praise God for His great love, despite our sin. Romans 5:6-9 says, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”

Never get the idea that sin is worth committing. Sin is the worse thing that has happened to this world and to mankind. Romans 8:22,23 says, “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.”
