Chapter 4

#14 — Acts 24:7

“But the chief ______________ Lysias came upon us, and with great ________________ ________ him away out of our hands.”

Note: The NIV translators took this entire verse out of the Bible. Why? What was hard to understand about this verse? What Old English words were in this verse that made it impossible to update? None. Then why was it removed?

1. Acts 24:1 says, “And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain ____________ named __________________, who informed the governor ______________ Paul.”

Note: The Jews hired an orator to speak for them before Felix. An orator is “one distinguished for skill and power as a public speaker” (Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary). The verse that the NIV has totally removed shows that the Jews were lying about what really happened. It was not Lysias that came upon them with great violence, but they themselves that came upon Paul with great violence.

2. Acts 21:30-36 says, “And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple: and forthwith the doors were shut. And as they went about to ________ him, tidings came unto the chief ______________ of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an ____________. Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them: and when they ______ the chief captain and the soldiers, they ________ ______________ of Paul. Then the chief captain came near, and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and demanded who he was, and what he had done. And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle. And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was borne of the soldiers for the ________________ of the ____________. For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, Away with him.”

Note: So we find that the Jews had hired a persuasive speaker to lie to Felix about what had really happened. They were falsely accusing Paul, and now they were falsely accusing the chief captain of the Roman army, to try and make themselves look good. By the NIV taking out this entire verse, it fails to show the depths and the extent of the lies which they were willing to tell to condemn an innocent man. Satan does not want people to know just how evil some people are, and the depths of lies that they will tell.

#15 — Acts 28:29

“And when he had said these words, the ________ departed, and had great __________________ among themselves.”

Note: What Old English words are in that verse that make it so hard to understand, that the NIV translators felt the need to remove the entire verse from the Bible?
Paul is now being held in Rome, and he wanted to speak with the Jews there.

1. Acts 28:16-17 says, “And when we came to ________, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by ______________ with a ______________ that kept him. And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the ________ together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.”

2. Acts 28:23-24 says, “And when they had appointed him a day, there came ________ to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and __________________ the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning __________, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening. And some ________________ the things which were spoken, and some believed ______.”

3. Acts 28:25-28 says, "And when they ____________ ______ among themselves, they ________________, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers, Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: For the __________ of this people is waxed gross, and their ________ are dull of hearing, and their ________ have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be __________________, and I should heal them. Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the ________________, and that they will hear it."

Note: By removing verse 29, as the NIV does, we would think that many of the Jews just simply scoffed at and forgot all that Paul had said to them. But that was not the case at all.

4. Acts 28:29 says, “And when he had said these words, the ________ departed, and had __________ __________________ among themselves.”

5. Isaiah 1:18 says, “Come now, and let us ____________ together, saith the LORD: though your ________ be as ______________, they shall be as __________ as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

Many times when we witness to the lost, we may think that they discount what we say

and think that it all sounds ridiculous. But if we only knew what they were really thinking

after they have heard the Word of God, we would sometimes be greatly encouraged to see

how the Holy Spirit is indeed working in their hearts. But you would not get that encouragement

from the NIV in this passage, because they removed this entire verse. That is Satan’s goal,

to discourage people from witnessing, and to make them think that no one

is really taking anything that they say very seriously.

#16 — Romans 16:24

“The __________ of our Lord Jesus Christ be ________ ______ ______. Amen.”

Note: Why did the NIV translators remove that verse? Are there any Old English words in it? Is that verse really that hard to understand, that the entire verse had to be removed? Is the grace of God not that important? Can it be lightly removed, and should Christians just accept that? No.

1. Ephesians 2:4-9 says, “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by __________ ye are __________;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his __________ in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by __________ are ye __________ through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the ________ of God: ______ of __________, lest any man should boast.”

Note: We are saved by grace, and we can only live for God by His grace, in this troubled and sinful world.

2. 2 Timothy 2:1-4 says, “Thou therefore, my son, be ____________ in the __________ that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure ________________, as a good ______________ of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”

Satan does not want the grace of God made known to lost sinners so that they can get saved.

Satan does not want Christians to be reminded to rely upon the grace of God in their lives.

He wants them to think that they can handle things on their own, because he knows that will

make them prideful, and will bring the chastening of God upon them. The NIV translators have

removed an entire verse reminding Christians that they need the grace of God in their lives.

Why would Christians ever buy such a translation of the Bible?

Note: We have just covered 16 verses of the Bible that the NIV translators entirely removed. Now we will look at some of the verses which they have changed by deleting a portion of the verses.

B. Some verses are partially missing from the NIV.

#1 — Colossians 1:14

KJV (King James Version) - “In whom we have redemption ______________ ______ __________, even the forgiveness of sins:”

NIV (New International Version) - “In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

NWT (New World Translation — Jehovah’s Witnesses) - “By means of whom we have our release by ransom, the forgiveness of our sins.”

Notice that both the NIV and the Jehovah’s Witnesses NWT leave out

the phrase “through his blood.” How important is that? We often hear,

“These new Bible translations are okay. They do not change anything

that affects any doctrine.” That is certainly not true, as we shall see

here in this example. First, it is VERY IMPORTANT when ANYTHING

is added or subtracted from God’s Word.

1. Deuteronomy 4:2 says, “Ye shall not ______ unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye ________________ ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.”

Note: It does not matter whether man thinks that God has such a multitude of words in the Bible, that some of them can be omitted or changed with no harm. That is not what God says about His Word.

2. Proverbs 30:5-6 says, “__________ ________ of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. ______ thou ______ unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”

Note: God gives a very serious warning not to change His Word.

3. Revelation 22:18-19 says, “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall ______ unto these things, God shall add unto him the ______________ that are written in this book: And if any man shall ________ ________ from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the ________ of ________, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”

Note: That means that a truly saved person would never take away from the Word of God. There is a holy reverence of the Bible on the part of true Christians, and a fear of God to ever do such a thing.

Secondly, it is VERY IMPORTANT when someone LEAVES
OUT the BLOOD of Jesus Christ in the matter of redemption.

4. Jesus said in Matthew 26:28, “For this is my __________ of the new testament, which is shed for many for the _____________________ of sins.”
5. Acts 20:28 leaves a serious warning to preachers in regard to their flocks, “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the __________, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own __________.”

Note: Preachers are to take great care of the flock which was purchased with the blood of Christ on the cross. Preachers, of all people, should be the first to rise up and condemn any translation of the Scripture that would dare remove the blood from such a verse, because there is no forgiveness apart from the blood of Jesus Christ.

    6. Romans 5:8-9 says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now __________________ by his __________, we shall be __________ from wrath through him.”
    7. Ephesians 1:7 says, “In whom we have ____________________ through his __________, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.”
    8. Colossians 1:20 says, “And, having made peace through the __________ of his __________, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”
    9. Hebrews 9:12-14 says, “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his ______ __________ he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal ____________________ for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the __________ of ____________, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

    10. 1 Peter 1:18-19 says, "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious __________ of ____________, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.?
    11. 1 John 1:7 says, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the __________ of Jesus Christ his Son __________________ us from all ______."
    12. Revelation 1:5 says, "And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and ____________ us from our ________ in his own __________."
    13. Revelation 5:9 says, "And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast _________________ us to God by thy __________ out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation."
    14. Revelation 7:13-14 says, "And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them __________ in the __________ of the ________."
    15. Revelation 12:11 says, "And they overcame him by the __________ of the ________, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death."

Do you see what an important change this was? This was not a change to update Old English.

Who does not understand the word blood? This is clearly the work of Satan

— as he begins the gradual process of removing key things from the Scriptures.

This is only the first round. The same translators have already put out a

new translation called the TNIV, which has made many more changes.

16. Remember Proverbs 30:5? “__________ ________ of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.”
17. Matthew 5:17-18 says, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one ______ or one ____________ shall in no wise ________ from the law, till all be fulfilled.”

Note: The word jot is, “the tenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and the eighth letter (iota) of the Greek alphabet; figuratively used for a very small part of anything” (Strong’s Concordance). The word tittle means, “the apex of a Hebrew letter; figuratively used of the least particle” (Strong’s Concordance). This shows us how serious God is about preserving His Word in the smallest detail. Not only in preserving the words, but the correct form of the words, (singular, plural, correct tense, gender etc.).
