Question
“I see on TBN television women preaching. Is that Biblical?”
Answer
Teaching #1—Women are not to be teaching/preaching when there are men present.
“Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.” (Holy Bible, 1 Timothy 2:11-12, KJV)
What reason does God give for this instruction to us?
Reason #1
The order of creation.
“For Adam was first formed, then Eve.” (Holy Bible, 1 Timothy 2:13, KJV)
God created man first, and thus designated him to be the leader. Some women resent that. They think that they would be better leaders than the men. Do they also question the right of business owners to choose who is to be the foreman?
Reason #2
Eve was deceived by Satan.
“And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.” (Holy Bible, 1 Timothy 2:14, KJV)
Satan, through the serpent, attacked the weaker vessel, Eve. That is what vicious animals and people do—they attack the more vulnerable.
So God told husbands to protect and honor their wives. “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel” (Holy Bible, 1 Peter 3:7, KJV) In the home, under the protection of a loving husband, the wife can teach her children, and be saved from facing these enemies. “Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing.” (Holy Bible, 1 Timothy 2:15a, KJV)
Teaching #2—Women are not to be speaking publicly when the church is gathered together.
“Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.” (Holy Bible, 1 Corinthians 14:34, KJV)
Note #1—Some argue that this passage only forbids women from speaking in tongues
in the church.
Notice that it instructs the church to continue an Old Testament practice (“As also saith the law”), of women not speaking before the congregation. In the Old Testament, we do not read about any problem of people trying to speak in foreign tongues in worship services.
Note #2—This passage does not just deal with speaking in tongues, because it states that women are not to even ask questions during worship.
“And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.” (Holy Bible, 1 Corinthians 14:35, KJV)
Many women could have a strong, spiritual husband, if they would follow this teaching. A man grows when he is asked questions, and has to find the answers.
Teaching #3—A truly spiritual person will accept this teaching
as from the Lord, not man.
“If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.” (Holy Bible, 1 Corinthians 14:37, KJV)
Teaching #4–Here is the kind of woman that is great to God, one that is meek and quiet.
“Even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.” (Holy Bible, 1 Peter 3:4b, KJV)
Who is the Lord Jesus Christ?
The Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God, God Almighty in the flesh.
The name “Lord” means “Master.” Do you desire to repent of your sin and obey the Lord?
The name “Jesus” means “Saviour.” Do you realize that your good works cannot pay for your sins? “For the wages of sin is death.” (Holy Bible, Romans 6:23a, KJV) It is Jesus that loves you, and died on the cross for you, and gave His pure, sinless blood to pay the wages of your sin.
The name “Christ” means “Messiah.” He is coming again—and it could be at any moment. Are you ready for His coming?
The proof that Jesus successfully paid the wages of your sin, is the fact that He arose from the grave. “He was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” (Holy Bible, 1 Corinthians 15:4b, KJV)
To be saved, you must call upon the Lord Jesus from your heart. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD JESUS, and shalt BELIEVE in thine HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED.” “For whosoever shall CALL upon the NAME of the LORD shall be SAVED” (Holy Bible, Romans 10:9,13, KJV).
Repent and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ right now. Ask Him to forgive you, and cleanse you, and save you.
After we ask the Lord Jesus Christ to save us, then God instructs us to openly confess Him by getting baptized under the water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4, KJV)
Yes, I just asked the Lord Jesus Christ to save me, and I desire to now live for Him.
