ý — For an ice cold Cherry Coke, Pepsi, 7-UP, or Sprite?

ý — Or maybe a warm steaming cup of coffee or hot chocolate?

ý — Or maybe you like stimulating drinks — something with a little alcohol  in it?

Is there anything wrong with drinking alcoholic drinks, if you do not drink and drive?

After all, some churches use alcoholic wine for communion, and didn’t Jesus Himself drink wine, and turn water into wine at the wedding in Cana of Galilee?

Jesus could not have drunk alcoholic wine at the wedding feast in John chapter 2, or He would have been sinning by disobeying the Bible.

The Bible says, “It is NOT for KINGS, O Lemuel, it is NOT for KINGS to DRINK WINE; NOR for PRINCES STRONG DRINK” (Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:4, KJV).  Remember, Jesus is the “KING of KINGS,” (Holy Bible, Revelation 19:16, KJV), and He is “The PRINCE of PEACE” (Holy Bible, Isaiah 9:6, KJV).  If Jesus would have drunk wine or strong drink, then He would have DISOBEYED the BIBLE, and that would have made Him a SINNER, and UNABLE to be our SAVIOR!

The word wine  is a generic term in the Bible.  That means it is a general term for a whole group or class of grape-related products (like generic medicine at the pharmacy).  Even grapes still hanging on the vine are called wine  in Isaiah 65:8.

So the use of the word wine in the Bible does not always refer to an alcoholic beverage.  You must consider the context of the passage to determine what product of the grape vine the passage is referring.

What about the wedding Jesus attended?  Were the rest of the guests drinking alcoholic

wine—or just grape juice?

After Jesus had turned the water into wine, the ruler of the feast said, “Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now” (Holy Bible, John 2:10, KJV).  Does the phrase well drunk  mean that the guests were intoxicated?  That could not possibly be the case, because the man could tell that the wine tasted better than what they had been previously drinking.

A drunken man is certainly no judge of taste.  Alcohol dulls

the senses—it does not

make them sharper.

What would you think if you had made a cake for that wedding, and when it was served, the staggering, drunken guests came up to you, and in their slurred speech said, “This is the best cake we have ever tasted!”?  Would you take that as a great compliment?  No.  A drunken man’s compliments mean nothing.  Even so, for a drunken man to compliment Jesus for His wine, would have meant absolutely nothing.  These guests were not drunk with alcohol—they had simply drunk a lot of plain grape juice from the punch bowl at that wedding.

If Jesus made alcoholic wine for a wedding reception where the guests were already intoxicated, then He would have helped a bunch of drunk people get more drunk—and that would be helping to keep people OUT of heaven.

The Bible says in I Corinthians 6:10 that the drunkard cannot inherit the kingdom of God.  Jesus did not come to keep people out of heaven.  “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be SAVED” (Holy Bible, John 3:17, KJV).

“Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have NO PLEASURE in the DEATH of the WICKED; but that the WICKED TURN from his WAY and LIVE” (Holy Bible, Ezekiel 33:11a, KJV).  TURN to the LORD JESUS CHRIST right now, and ask Him to FORGIVE you, and to CLEANSE you, and to SAVE you.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God, God Almighty in the flesh.  He is Master, Savior, and Messiah; the Creator of heaven and earth.  He died on the cross for you, and gave His pure, sinless blood to pay your sin debt.  The Lord Jesus Christ then arose from the grave the third day, proving that His blood fully paid for your sins.  To be SAVED, you must CALL upon Him from your HEART.  “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD JESUS, and shalt BELIEVE in thine HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED.”  “For whosoever shall CALL upon the NAME of the LORD shall be SAVED” (Holy Bible, Romans 10:9,13, KJV).

After we ask the Lord Jesus Christ to save us, then God instructs us to openly confess Him by getting baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  When we go under the water, it pictures death to the old life of sin, and when we come up out of the water, it pictures a new life serving the Lord Jesus Christ.

Yes, I just asked the Lord Jesus Christ to save me, and I desire to now live for Him.
