Chapter 2

II. Who Will Go To Hell?

A. People who reject the gospel.

    1. According to I Corinthians 15:1-4, the gospel is, “that Christ died for ______ sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”

Note: The word gospel means “good news.” It is the good news that Jesus died in our place, and that we can have our sins forgiven.

    2. Revelation 21:8 lists some characteristics of people who reject the gospel. Please read it and answer the following questions.

        a. The first characteristic of those who reject the gospel is that they are “______________.”

Note: Some may disagree with this verse, but it is true.

What about mean, tough sinners who are seemingly

not afraid of anything — including death? They are fearful

— of friends laughing at them and mocking them.

Others are afraid to get saved for fear of what their families will say. A meek and mild wife may be afraid to get saved for fear of what her husband will say — or even what he might do to her.

Sometimes a family is raised in a false religion that is held to very strictly. If a member of that family ever becomes a Christian, he/she would be forsaken by the rest of the family — even though he/she may be grown up and married.

And so for these fears and many more, people reject the gospel for the present time. The problem is that days turn into weeks; weeks into months; and months into years. Before a person realizes it, life has gone. That is why the Bible says, “behold, ______ is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” (II Corinthians 6:2)

        b. A second characteristic of people who will go to hell is that they are “______________________.” (Revelation 21:8)

Note: Many times people talk about the “unpardonable sin.” What exactly is it? Is it committing suicide? Is it having a conversation with the devil and “selling your soul” to him?

John 3:16-18 tells us how much God loves us, and how Jesus came to save us - not condemn us. Verse 18 tells us, “he that believeth ______ is condemned already.” Why is he already condemned? That verse goes on to say, “because he hath not ________________ in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

A sin which God cannot forgive is the sin of unbelief.

If a person rejects Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for his sins,

then there is no other way to get his sins forgiven.

The Bible says, “Neither is there salvation in ______ other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

Note: What about Matthew 12:31? It says that, “the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall ______ be forgiven unto men.”

Why would anyone blaspheme the Holy Ghost? One reason is that His purpose in coming is to ______________ the world of sin, according to John 16:8. And who likes to be reproved? John 16:9 shows that the Holy Spirit even shows them why they are sinning, “because they believe ______ on me (the Lord Jesus).”

What it boils down to is that if people are not believing the Holy Spirit when He convicts them, then they are also not believing on the Lord Jesus, to whom the Holy Spirit is pointing. According to John 16:13,14, the Holy Spirit does not speak of ______________, but rather glorifies the Lord Jesus.

        c. A third characteristic of people who go to hell is that they can portray many harmful character traits, as is shown in the rest of Revelation 21:8.

1.) ____________________ — they do deeds that make people disgusted and outraged at them.

2.) __________________ — they take the lives of others.

3.) ______________________ — they lust after others and seek immorality with them.

4.) __________________ — they delve into drugs, potions, spells, curses, and spiritism.

5.) __________________ — they worship some “thing” or some “one” other than the true God.

6.) __________ — they tell people lies to cover up their evil deeds; to make gain; or to simply try to impress others.

These are all traits of those who reject the gospel. These people will one day wake up in the lake of fire, unless they repent and accept the gospel message.

— Who will go to hell?

B. People who never hear the gospel.

    1. Romans 10:13 says that you have to “________ upon the name of the Lord” to be saved.

    2. But verse 14 of that same chapter says that they cannot call upon someone “in whom they have not __________.”

    3. That verse also states that they cannot believe in someone “of whom they have not __________.”

    4. Verse 17 of that same chapter shows that a person cannot even have faith to get saved without _______________ the Word of God.

Note: No one, no matter how good he/she may be, can get saved without hearing the gospel. Please read Acts 10:1-48; 11:11-14, and answer the following questions.

    1. According to verse 2, Cornelius was a devout man that ___________________ God and gave a lot of alms (gifts) to the people.

    2. That same verse also states that Cornelius prayed to God __________.

    3. Verse 4 says his prayers and alms were come up for a ________________ before God.

    4. Even though Cornelius had a “good report” among the people, he was ___________ from God by an angel to send for Peter and hear his words. (vs.22)

   5. Peter preached in verse 43 that the prophets all witnessed of Jesus, that through His name whosoever believed in Him would receive _________________ of sins.

    6. Verse 44 shows that Cornelius and the people immediately trusted Jesus Christ to save them, because the ____________________ fell upon them.

    7. According to 11:14, Cornelius and all of his house (his family) got __________ when they heard Peter preach the gospel.

This shows us that even morally good and kind people

who pray a lot cannot be saved until they hear the gospel.

— Please read Psalm 19:1-3, and answer the following questions.

    1. Verse 1 says the ______________ declare the glory of God.

    2. According to verse 2, even the days and nights speak of God and show ________________.

    3. The evidence from nature that there is a God is so strong that there is no speech or language where this “voice” or “proof” is not __________.

Although nature gives absolute proof that there is

a God, it cannot tell a person how  to get saved saved.

That is why we are responsible to tell people the gospel.

Note: Romans 10:14 says, “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a ________________?”

— Who will go to hell?

C. Angels who reject God’s authority and plan.

    1. As we have previously seen, “everlasting fire” or “hell” was “prepared for the devil and his ____________.” (Matthew 25:41)

    2. According to Ezekiel 28:14,16, the devil himself is an angelic creature called the “anointed” or “covering” ____________.

Note: To find out more about how a cherub looks, and what he does, read Ezekiel 1:4-28 and 10:6-22.

    3. II Peter 2:4 tells us that God spared not the angels that ____________, but cast them down to hell.

   4. We are also told in Jude 6 that the angels which did not keep their first estate, but left their own habitation, God has reserved in everlasting ________ under darkness unto the judgment day.

Note: This tells us that some angels have committed other vile sins even further than rebelling against God when Satan did. We know this because Satan and the angels which fell with him at that time of rebellion were not immediately cast into hell, nor are they even chained at this present time.

        a. Job 1:6 says that on a certain day the sons of God came before God, and __________ came among them.

        b. In the next verse when the Lord asked Satan where he had been, he answered, “From going to and fro in the __________, and from walking up and down in it.

        c. Luke 8:26-33 relates the story of a demon-possessed man (demons are fallen angels).

1.) How many devils or demons were in this man? (vs.30) _________

2.) The demons’ greatest fear when they met up with Jesus was that He would command them to go out into the ________. (vs.31)

The word deep means “bottomless, great depth.” So

the demons’ greatest fear is to be confined to the

bottomless pit right now. This means that many are

free to roam and cause evil at this present time.
