Chapter 4

IV. When Do People (& Angels/Demons) Go To Hell?

A. Angels.

    1. According to Job 1:7, Satan (an angelic creature) was free to roam the __________ in Job’s day.

    2. Revelation 12:6-10 reveals to us that even up to the midpoint of the Tribulation Period, Satan has access to ____________, because at that point there is a war up there, and the Devil is cast out from there.

Satan has access at the present time to both heaven

and earth. He causes trouble down here, and then

goes before God to accuse us of sin.

    3. Verse 7 of this same chapter reveals that the dragon (another name for Satan, vs.9) and his ____________ fought against Michael and his angels.

Note: This tells us that a number of evil angels (demons) also have access into the heavens right along with Satan.

    4. When Jesus asked the possessed man in the country of the Gadarenes what his name was, he replied, “Legion,” because many ____________ were entered into him. (Luke 8:26-30)

Note: This verse shows us that devils or demons also have access to the earth to cause trouble. But not all demons (fallen angles) are free to roam as they please.

   5. II Peter 2:4 tells us that “God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to ________, and delivered them into chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgment.”

    6. According to Jude 6, some angels committed such a vile act that they are right now “reserved in everlasting ____________ under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.”

Note: These verses tell us that some angels are not free to roam, but are bound in chains in hell. But these verses also describe a future day of judgment awaiting them as well.

When is this judgment going to take place for the fallen angels? It may possibly be just before the Great White Throne Judgment for unsaved people. Remember that everlasting fire was created for the __________ and his ____________. (Matthew 25:41)

        a. According to Revelation 19:20-20:15, the first ones cast into the lake of fire are whom? (19:20) ________________________________

        b. Who is the third one to be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone? (Revelation 20:10) __________

Note: The Bible does not mention when the rest of the devil’s angels (demons) are cast into the lake of fire, but we presume it to be right in this general time. You will notice that the very next verse, Revelation 20:11, begins speaking about the Great White Throne Judgment.

    7. I Corinthians 6:1-3 also places the judgment of the lost and the judgment of angels side-by-side when it says, “Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the __________? ...Know ye not that we shall judge ____________? how much more things that pertain to this life?”

        a. John 12:48 says that the one that judges those who reject Jesus is “the ________ that I (Jesus) have spoken.”

        b. That certainly agrees with Revelation 20:12 when it says the dead “stand before God; and the __________ were opened.”

In what way do we play a part in the judging process

in regard to the world and angels? One way is simply

by our presence there. In any legal matter,

witnesses play a very important part.

Eyewitness accounts are very important. So we will be there as living proof (eyewitness accounts) that it was indeed possible to get saved by the grace of God.

Illustration: One of the biggest excuses for sin is, “Everyone else is doing it!”

The motorist is pulled over by the police officer for speeding and says, “I was only staying with the rest of the traffic. Why did you pull me over?” He thought it was permissible to speed as long as there were other people doing it, too.

The young lady is about to go out the door to school when stopped by her mother, who says, “That dress is too short on you, you will have to go change before you go to school.” The girl protests, “But all of the girls wear dresses this length, and much shorter! If I wear a long dress to school, they will think that I am weird.” She thinks short dresses are okay to wear, because so many others are wearing them.

Face it, we all feel justified in our sin if we can point to enough other people who are also doing it. But let one person rise up and say, “I will do the right thing no matter what other people do!” Such a stand brings conviction to others. Why? Because it takes away their excuses for doing wrong. It shows that their excuses are flawed — not “everyone” is doing it! Thus, the ones doing wrong are judged by the life of the one who chooses to do right.

Even so, as we stand in heaven redeemed and purified by the blood of Jesus Christ, our lives will judge those who rejected and disobeyed the Lord.

— When do people (& angels/demons) go to hell?

B. Man.

    1. According to Luke 16:19-23, as soon as the rich man died and was buried, he found himself in ________. (vs.23)

    2. In verse 24 of that same chapter, he says, “I am tormented in this __________.”

How can people die and immediately find themselves in

hell, when they have not even faced the Judgment Day yet?

Note: The answer is found in John 3:18. “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned ______________.” A person is condemned by the very fact that he has not yet trusted Christ. That is why people die and immediately go to hell with no formal trial and sentencing before God.

    3. The “trial” comes later, according to Revelation 20:11-15.

        a. They will stand before the great __________ throne. (vs.11)

        b. They will be judged according to their __________. (vs.12)

        c. Having died in a remote place will not prevent them from being brought before God, because the sea, death, and ________ will deliver up the dead in them. (vs.13)

        d. Those lost people will be brought up, and will be cast into the lake of ________. (vs.14)

In the Judgment Day, lost people will be raised from hell

to be cast into the lake of fire. Although they are two

different places, the torment in each is the same; except

for varying degrees of punishment in the lake of fire.

Note: We often only speak of our resurrection to eternal life, but lost people are also going to be physically resurrected.

        e. Daniel 12:2 says that many people “that sleep in the dust of the earth shall __________, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”

        f. The Bible also says again that the lost shall be physically resurrected to face judgment in John 5:28,29, “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of __________________.”

        g. According to Revelation 20:4-6, this resurrection of the lost takes place after the millennium, because it says, “the rest of the dead (the unsaved) __________ not again until the thousand years were finished.”

Lost people will be physically resurrected to face God

at the Great White Throne Judgment, and then will be

cast into the lake of fire. That is why it is called the

“second death” (Revelation 20:6). Lost people will

literally and physically face two deaths.
