TEXT VERSION

NIV Or The Weatherman – Which Is More Accurate?

Which is more accurate,

the word of a meteorologist —

or the Word of God?

A child can answer that one, because weathermen are often wrong — but the Bible is always right!  “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but THE WORD OF OUR GOD SHALL STAND FOR EVER” (Holy Bible, Isaiah 40:8, KJV).

But is that really true of the NIV (the New International Version)?  Is it always right?  Christians have been told that the NIV simply updated Old English words, but how many have ever bothered to see if that was really true?  Have you?  “PROVE ALL THINGS; hold fast that which is good” (Holy Bible, 1 Thessalonians 5:21, KJV).

Let’s go to the proving grounds and do some testing on the NIV.  Look at Proverbs 25:23.  The NIV does not just update Old English words — it makes the verse to say the exact opposite of what it originally did.  Look at it.

KJV (King James Version)

“The north wind

DRIVETH AWAY RAIN:”

(Holy Bible, Proverbs 25:23, KJV).

NIV (New International Version)

“As a north wind

BRINGS RAIN,”

(Proverbs 25:23) (The New International Version, International Bible Society © 1973, 1978, 1984)

Does the north wind DRIVE AWAY rain — or does it BRING rain?  One of the translations is WRONG.

A pastor saw these changes in the NIV, and began to observe the weather to see which was correct.  When it was cloudy and the north wind began to blow, he observed that it brought clearing — not rain.  When it was raining, and the wind changed and began to blow from the north — it would drive the rain away.

The pastor saw that the King James Bible was true, but the NIV reading was false.  The NIV did not stand.

When he documented his findings, another pastor read it and wrote to him sarcastically, “What makes you think that the weather in the Holy Land is like the weather where you live?”

Here was a very real and serious challenge.  Is the Bible only true in certain parts of the world?  Can you only count on the Bible’s wisdom if you live in Israel?

The pastor accepted the challenge, and began to write to missionaries all over the world.  All who had ever observed the wind and rain in their country of service, agreed with the King James Bible — that the north wind drives away the rain.  Not one missionary said that the north wind brings rain, like the NIV says.

A missionary in Israel also agreed with the King James Bible.  The rain there comes from the southwest winds — not the north wind.

The pastor then did more research about the weather in the Holy Land.  Rain there normally comes from a low pressure system out over the Mediterranean Sea.  Low pressure systems have winds that rotate counter-clockwise.  So when a low pressure system approaches Israel from the Mediterranean Sea, the winds are going to be from the southwest.  That matched exactly what the missionary there said — that winds from the south-west bring rain — not from the north.

The pastor also observed that among many NIV users, there seemed to be a strong disdain or contempt for the King James Bible.

In fact, he found that some users of the NIV refer to Christians who use the KJV as members of the “King James Only Cult.”  Here was another serious challenge.  Is it being part of a cult to believe God’s promise — that He would preserve His Word pure for every generation?  “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.   Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever” (Holy Bible, Psalms 12:6-7, KJV).

Once again, the pastor accepted the challenge and looked up what Proverbs 25:23 says in the NWT, the translation of the Jehovah’s Witness cult.

NWT  (New World Translation — Jehovah’s Witnesses)

“The wind from the north BRINGS FORTH as with labor pains A DOWNPOUR;”

(New World Translation, Copyright © 2010 Watch Tower

Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania)

So upon testing, it is the NIV reading that agrees with the cults — not the King James Bible.

So the more accurate question would be, “Are you a part of the NIV cult?”  Will you blindly defend and follow the NIV?  Will you even bother to test it?

If you are serious about reaching students, teachers, scientists, meteorologists, and common folks (who check out what they read), how are you going to use the NIV?  When they come across Proverbs 25:23, they are going to say, “See, the Bible is not a book that you can trust for scientific facts — look at this fallacy here!  Even the weatherman knows better than the NIV!”

This verse is just scratching the surface.  Look how many professing Christians have been deceived into buying the NIV.  Are you one of them?  Are you willing to really test the NIV and see?

Are you saved?  “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord” (Holy Bible, Acts 3:19, KJV).

“Dear Lord Jesus, I do believe that you are the Son of God; that you are God Almighty in the flesh, the Creator of heaven and earth.  I do believe that you are the only Savior; that you died on the cross for me, and gave your precious blood to pay my sin debt; and then you arose from the grave the third day.  I do now repent of my sins, and receive you as my Savior.  Please forgive me, and save my soul.  Please raise up my life from sin and shame, and use it now for your glory.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

r — Yes, I just asked the Lord Jesus Christ to

save me, and I desire to now live for Him.
